Please explain to me why my photo has dueled against the same photo seven times in a row. There's over 330 photos in that category. We're supposed to compete against many photos, not the same ones over and over. Seven times in a row is a bit extreme, don't you agree? Look at the duel history of my photo below.

I have thought something wasn't right with the system for a few weeks but can't put my finger on it. My duels are doing worse than ever ( Maybe I am having a slump) and the photos I am losing against are of poor quality (I know...thats subjective). I wonder if someone has found a way to manipulate things. Strange things seem to be happening like photos being uploaded and then voting not starting. Points dropping 20 or 30 points within a few votes. I thought maybe its supposed to be like this now but it just doesn't feel right. And now if this happened to you I am sure it is happening more often. Jason please double check your algorithm or tweek it or something. the fun is going away again. All of these things happening doesn't seem like it could be a coincidence. If nothing is wrong on your side then I will do my best to adjust to the new ways. Let me know if you find anything.
Thanks

The link below is to 2 of mY flower pictures. Nothing special but this is what is making me question the integrity of the algorithm. The first link,
http://www.pixoto.com/images-photogra...
Has a score of 524 with 100 duels and 48 wins 52 loses.
This one uploaded the same time has a score of 468 with 100 duels 51 wins 49 loses.

Why does the photo that has a lower w/l ratio have a higher score? And 51/49 ratio only scoring 468? Something is wrong or changed and it is being reflected in the posts here in the forum. Unless maybe its mass hysteria :)

Definitely mass hysteria. The ratios above are perfectly normal and happen all the time. See www.pixoto.com/about

It is very confusing. A logical mind would think that the more wins a person has the higher the score. Oh well. Some things I will never understand.

That's what most people would think.

I tried Pixoto many many months ago and even though I won many awards and had top photos I thought the system here was unfair.
I started uploaded photos again about a week ago and I can see that the rating system and logic here is still screwed up.

I have reported people who have duplicate accounts and post the same photos, but nothing has been done about it so I posted on this site tonight.

Go check out my issues and questions and see if you agree with me.

Not sure how long I will be around this time, but it is almost funny how Pixoto is run and how the rating systems seem to get worse even though many people try to give constructive input.

First welcome back. We can always use more good photographers on the site. Things have changed here and they are really trying to make things better. The duplicates are being taken care of more than they were and we need to give the new category changes a chance to mature. Growth and success do not come without setbacks and problems that need to be overcome. Some more than others. They have something really great here. They just need to refine things. Keep the constructive input coming. I know how frustrating it can get.

Thanks Andrew. It's been a year and I am reading the same comments from upset people and these were the same comments that I was reading a year ago. I'm not sure I have seen any progress.

Like the other question I posted...... How can my photo hold 2 different positions in the same category ? That's just crazy. People will think that I posted the same photo twice.

It can't be just a coincidence, the same things you mentioned, Andrew, are happening to me. Yesterday I had to post that I wasn't getting any duels. My newly posted photo had zero duels for the first 2 hours. Then, as I mentioned at the top of this post, I was dueled against the same photo 7 times "in a row". With over 330 photos in that category, I shouldn't have to duel against "any" photo more than once, and never seven times in a row. They need to change or fix things quickly.

Riciano, Andrew and Nick. The reason for the strange duel behavior (i.e. pairings with the same image many time, no/slow duels) has to do with the launch of new categories.

For example while it is true that the abstract category has a couple hundred photos in it - the clothing sub-category only has 23 - most of which are paused. And the others all have very different image scores.

So until we have large numbers of images in the new categories there is going to be some erratic behavior. There really isn't anything I can do about it. The categories that have been around a while are operating normally so if you focus you submissions on those you won't encounter these issues.

How can my photo hold 2 different positions in the same category that has existed since almost the beginning? People will think that I posted the same photo twice.

Sometimes when I scroll down i see my photos at two places. What I do is refresh the page and then that does not happen. i don't know why this happens and if it's the same thing that is happening with your pictures..

I think I will also follow it a little. I had a computer crash just after uploading 2 pics in the new categories and couldn't follow it. But there are really strange duels going on like Riciano's 7 duels against the same picture, this shouldn't happen

I just don't understand some of the duels. I put a photo up in "landscape/fields and some of the first images it was dueled against were photos of the moon in the "nightscapes" category. I could see this if it had been dueling a long time, but it was one of the first duels. The photos weren't even remotely similar.

Hi Kim, all duels happen on the category level, meaning everything in Landscapes has to duel across subcategories to find it's placement in the main category. Awards are given on the category level. The subcategories are mainly for organizational purposes so others can find the types of images they are looking for.

Thanks Sherry. I actually looked around more at some other threads and saw that, and that made sense to me. I keep forgetting to check to see if there are responses here, so thanks for taking time to do that!
