I'm new here and have posted 6 images so far. My winter Sunset image reached an imagescore of 625 yesterday but when I looked at it tonight it was 624 and had dropped from the top 10% to 15%, I just checked again and it is now at 622.....I didn't think imagescore should drop?

It will drop if it loses in a duel. It will drop more if it loses more, but will go up again if it wins more. The higher the image score, the tougher is the duel.

Sorry, I don't follow. That doesn't make sense. with 67 duels and little over 50% won .....surely based on that, the score wouldn't be much above zero? Won one lost one = 0?

When you first post a photo, you will only see it go up. But once it reaches a certain level and is in duels with more popular images on the site, your image score will fluctuate and go up and down. It happens to all our images :-)

Thanks all for your feedback.

Ian, to understand more about how ImageScores are calculated.

What is an ImageScore?
ImageScore is generated from our proprietary algorithms and
is meant to summarize how well the image has done against other images
in its category and subcategory. Once an image has competed in
sufficient duels, a higher score will naturally mean a higher perceived
quality. ImageScore is recalculated at the end of every ImageDuel.
Factors that determine how much ImageScore changes include the number of
ImageDuels completed and the relative strength of the opponent.

Our goal is not to find the relative position of all images
but instead to find the relative position of the BEST images. It is not
important to us whether an image rates 50 or 51 out of 100. We really
only want to put that image in the right area of the Leaderboard and
will stop dueling (“pause”) images that are not statistically likely to
reach the top 10%. By contrast it is important that we understand
whether an image ranks number 3 or 4 out of 100 and will use a
disproportionate number of ImageDuels to determine this.

Important Note: ImageScores are calculated only within
categories and subcategories and cannot be compared across categories.
For example a photo with an ImageScore of 650 in Wedding is NOT by
definition better than an image with a score of 600 in Landscape &
Nature.

Leizel - I am curious as to what point in the process does an image start losing points when it loses a duel? The score goes up until a certain point, whether it wins or loses, but at some point, that changes, and the score goes down with each loss.... What point is that, and how is it determined? Is it a number of duels, or a certain score, or a certain percentage of wins/losses, or when it reaches the top 10% of the leaderboard?

And if this (what you mentioned above) is true, why was I told by a Pixoto staff member that once you reach 50 duels, the duels have little impact on image score? My experience has not corroborated that - image score can and does change considerably even after 50 duels.

Don't feel bad, my image went from 620 to 560 in about a half-hour's timeframe. How does that happen?

What I mean is is your image paused or do you still have duels remaining? I would only have more duels if I boosted my image, since I have reached 100 duels, but the score still keeps changing, so who is submitting my picture for more duels???

I did not boost it and I watched it fall drastically when the challenge on utensils went into the "voting" stage. Everytime I hit the refresh button, I had lost another 10 points without noticing any duels. After the challenge named winners it started to rise again. Just saying ... it was completely arbitrary and without reason that it happened -- and very coincidental that it happened during the "voting" stage of the challenge.

I would like to understand how my image score can go down from 701 to 698 when there are no more duels for that image. There is something really weird going on here....

Yeah, that is SO convenient, when you need to be a Nobel prize in mathematics to understand how the scores are calculated...

Marie, photos actually never stop dueling (Pixoto has stated that even paused images may be unpaused by them, but it's rare), but at a certain point it slows down to an absolute crawl. Just because you haven't boosted an image doesn't mean that it won't ever duel, it's just that it won't be immediately active in the duels. But especially with your higher scoring images, you will see that it will duel, as it and other newer images jockey for the top spots.

My highest scoring image has over 200 duels and I stopped boosting it at around 100 duels. (I'm not Pro, btw.)
