About a month ago, Jason posted the following:
"Hi All - we've been listening to your feedback and are trying to make Pixoto a more fun and interesting place for photographers and image buyers alike. One issue that we're trying to address is that some subjects are over represented on Pixoto. While these photos may be great in their own right - it can become tiring to see so many versions of essentially the same thing. We are planning on banning some over-represented subject based on member feedback."
The crux of this comment is this: "While these photos may be great in their own right - it can become tiring to see so many versions of essentially the same thing."
The importance of this comment is this: any one tog's portfolio filled with "versions of essentially the same thing" (subject) does little to boost stock sales, and from the perspective of buyers viewing multitudes of similar images, it does little to promote the reputation of this site for having a wide range of superior stock images from which buyers may choose.
Here is one of many portfolios with "essentially the same thing" (subject). Of this tog's top 16 photos, 13 are of the same subject and the remaining three are also of the same, though different, subject (frog posed on frog):

I am in no way putting down this tog in his ability to pose the croc with the mantis, but come on, dude...enough is enough!
So, cutting to the chase, the question for Jason: When you say, "We are planning on banning some over-represented subject based on member feedback," is there any time frame for this plan, and if so, when?

Would be nice to get an answer to this instead of letting it fade out of sight and out of mind.

Hi all, we have collected information and we are analyzing it. We will let you all know soon.

Did anything ever come of your analyzing this information? Do we really need to see 50 shots of birds sitting on a camera lens winning top ten prizes week after week or tigers jumping out of the water at feeding time. I know this goes on in most of the other categories as well, but it doesn't appear that Pixoto, which wants to supposedly make this site fresh and new, isn't doing anything about it. Just curious.

I so agree, I too am getting tired of seeing very slight variations of the same subject, no matter how well photographed.
I can also appreciate how hard it would be to control. Best of luck to Pixoto, to get this sorted.

Same here...I'm so disgusted with Pixoto doing nothing with those boring cheats who are obviously unable or afraid to show a little bit of imagination that I have cancelled my PRO account and I am giving up on uploading as of today. Perhaps I'll come back when something changes, but so far all I've seen are changes for the worse.

Cailin, I'll be very sad to not to see your pictures. Please do not give up and let's hope somehow will be some improvement in the process of Pixoto.

Thanks Mihai, but the problem is that with this frustrating system of voting and the many repetitive images, I spent way too much time re-uploading my pics over and over until I get a decent score...and in the end, when I manage to get a good result, my pic gets recategorized because someone reports it out of jealousy. This was supposed to be fun, and since I really love photography, I expected at least some fair judgment of what my photos are really worth, but unfortunately, the votes here are not about the quality of the photo. There are too many random votes, some people only vote for "frankenphotos" and I admit that I have started "overdoing" my pics on purpose to get better votes, but this is giving me no satisfaction, so I prefer to quit and concentrate on my Flickr gallery instead. At least there, you might get more constructive comments than "nice shot".

Mihai you are right, plus all of these are annoyingly over-processed and just not that good. most of the flowers got an artificial background, correctly described as UFOs. I happen to know these waterlilies got a stem.
When voting I tend to remark : nothing in your picture is in focus etc.
I refuse to use oversaturation and HDR. So I get 124 image score on a pic that has done extremely well on other sites, who like real photography.

I have to wonder...many people are complaining about these repetitive images, and yet obviously they keep voting for them each time a new one is uploaded. Perhaps if there was less interest in what's obviously "old news". all these boring photographers would be forced to look for other sources of inspiration than always the same tiger, the same street and the same flower. But it's quite certain that as long as they keep getting many votes, why should they bother? Personally, I'm so fed up of them that I never vote for them any longer.

My proposal is to define a comment to use it every time these guys are flooding us with their pictures. And than all of us to use it to comment their pictures, so others can see their potential.

Example: "Your successful recipe: your amazing street or these houses in your harbor! Today is boring for contest because you know exactly that you earn first place. Congratulation."

Excellent idea..except those guys probably don't care as long as they keep getting the awards and the money prizes.

It appears that moving the camera 1 cm makes the image "substantially different".
Leaving the camera on a tripod and changing the amount of zoom from 70mm to 400mm is not 'substantially different".
Adding a completely new element such as a cup as outlined in the pixoto explanation does not make the image "substantially different", but the photos at
http://www.pixoto.com/adi.parmana.3
demonstrate that an insect waving one leg to a different position makes the image "substantially different".
