Voting apparently not over on Saturday midnight GMT?

Ok, I'm a little confused about when the voting ends for the week. Last Saturday, my entry had 660 points at midnight GMT and was in the top 3% category. It had no boost votes left, and I did not boost it further. I double-checked to make sure the pictures for the new week appeared on the site, and I assumed that was the end of the voting. Today, the picture was awarded with a 'top 5%' rating and the score had fallen to 657.

Does anybody know why this is, and what I need to do to make sure the voting on my image is really over?

Hi zirtoc,

The reason we don't give out awards immediately after the voting period ends is because it takes the system a little time to update all of the image scores etc. So we wait until Wednesday to give the system time to update all of the scores. That is what you are seeing, last minute voting adding up and adding to your score even after voting has ended.

Thanks for the response, Sherry. I'm a little disappointed, but I understand your answer.

No that's incorrect. The award would have been Top 5% regardless, as there is no Top 3% award. If you're not in the top 10, you then get 5%, 10% or 20% awards. Sometimes awards can go up or down due to last minute votes but this appears to be within a 5 minute window after midnight, which is probably just how long the system takes to tally the scores. In most cases the score I have at 2-3 minutes past midnight is what ends up being my placement. I've had images knocked out of the top ten within minutes of midnight and still get their top 10 award.

Let me rephrase, Sherry is correct, the assumption that you'd have received a better award on Saturday is not - just re-read it and realised my post appears to say Sherry is incorrect. However you can view all the competition closing times here: http://www.pixoto.com/photography-com...

Yes Darrell, the link you posted is what caused my confusion. I was #8 in Buildings and Architecture well after midnight GMT on Saturday. When I checked the scores for Week 20 yesterday, I was #23. I just checked it a second ago, and I am #25.

So the scores don't seem to 'lock', which means one has no idea what place the picture is in until the award shows up on Wednesday.

No, you're still not getting it. The competition closes at midnight GMT on the Saturday, but voting continues until Midnight GMT Wednesday the next week to allow the latest entries to accumulate a fair amount of votes. The actual cut-off for voting is Midnight GMT on Wednesday, at which point the position of the images is locked for the awards to be assigned.

Yes, otherwise that photo that didn't get entered until the end of the day Saturday, doesn't get a chance as many duels as the photo entered on Monday. This way the image entered Saturday gets to be compared against all images from the week.
