Use your own domain with your Pixoto Site

By default your Pixoto Site can be viewed at username.pixoto.com.

You can customize your Site further however by using your own domain name so that your Site can be viewed from www.yourname.com.

To point your existing domain name to your Pixoto site, follow the instructions below (Instructions will vary for each domain registrar):

  1. Login to your account at your domain registrar (e.g. GoDaddy, 1&1, MediaTemple, etc)

  2. Go to the DNS management page for the domain you'd like to use.

  3. MediaTemple, etc)
  4. If you have any CNAME records for www - delete them

  5. Create a new 'CNAME' entry with these details:

  6. Host Name/Alias www
    Value/Destinationusername.pixoto.com
  7. Set the TTL value to it's lowest setting, if available

In general it can take up to 48 hours until your domain name is correctly pointing to your Pixoto Site.

Note: Pixoto Sites are currently a premium feature and require a paid plan.

Note: you can locate (or change) your Pixoto username by logging into Pixoto.com, selecting "Edit Settings" from the user menu at the top right of the screen and locating the 'Username' field.

Hi Jason, i want to try to use my own domain with your pixoto site.
I am new to this stuff!
in step 4 of the instructions, under host name, do i literally type in "www" or what. and under value/destination do i literally type in "username.pixoto.com"
or do i replace that with MY username.
My domain name i have already registered is peterchristoph.com and i am wondering do i put peterchristoph.com some where instead?
thanks for your help,
regards,
peter christoph

Hey Peter!

for hostname, yes you'll want enter "'www". This means all web requests to your domain name will be routed to your new Pixoto Site.

For the destination, you'll want to use your username. So, "peter.christoph.39.pixoto.com".

Let me know if you have any troubles!

I have set up my sumgmug site with Go Daddy and it works fine with the CName thery gave me. But they also gave an @ number to point to as well. You did not.
I changed the CName as you suggested to robert.willson.5055.pixoto.com. Waited for 48 hours and still getting GRAILS - error. Where am I missing something?
Thanks.

I finally got it to work when talking with GoDaddy. I had to go to the Manage Domain and choose Forwarding and paste the value and destination in and it worked. I left the CName unchanged to @. The only problem now is that when a person goes to my website they are unable to purchase photos. Just look at them. Maybe I am missing something? Now I am trying to set the address to the buy stock area with only my photos shown in forwarding to see if that works and not worry about the site.

That works. Now when a person types in my address of rawillsonphoto.com it takes them to where they will see only my photos for sale.

I would love to do this but do not understand a word of how to start. I'm afraid I do not even understand #1. I can take pictures but am somewhat illiterate when it comes to tech talk.

Hello Mary, this is explanation for Pro users who have their own domain and would like to link Pixoto Pro webgallery to their domain.

If you do not own domain for your site or you don't want to link it to Pixoto Pro webgallery slideshow you don't need to do anything that is explained here.

Please let me know if this is not the case.

I don't have a web page or domain. I wouldn't mind having one, but does it cost money

Usually do cost money, but you can get free ones (usually comes with forced adds).
