Is it me or does anyone else feel like there are more and more Instagram photos in image duel ? If 90% of them were not so crappy it would not be a problem. I love picking between two good photos, but recently I look at an out of focus image blob that is unrecoganizable and just click on the other image. It is not really too much of a problem but just seems to be more frequent with the Instagram category just added.

yes I'm with you. I wonder if this system is good. I think it destroys pictures as now, you can take really nice pictures with almost all mobile phones, android or not. So why do the most look ugly. I never take pictures with my mobile but my friend does with her Iphone and they are really good.

Hi Nick, you get my vote for removing the average garbage that comes from Instagram. I too enjoy looking at the comparisons between tow photos and right now I skip any Instagram challenges...sometimes I get three or four in a row...utter garbage on average

Hello! I am also of the opinion that Instagram images or to throw or put into a separate group. Every day it's all over and the fight was unequal. And I began to skip duels Instagram images.

I'm sick of so much on this site! We all complain- with little change ever being done!

Well it makes me laugh,

There is so much being done to reduce "similar images" to maintain the integrity of the site, then it gets filled up with what on the whole is basically rubish !

Whats the point ?

I pass on all Instagrams...I thought the goal of this site was to promote the best of the best, not the worst of the worst...AKA instagram. The sad thing is that those things take up a fair percentage of the duals.

You're all right. I skip all the instagram since long time but some days they are really too much and I have to spend more time for the duels. What is the sense of instagram in a photo site. Or at least we should have an option to choose if we want to see them or not like the mature content images

Might be a good idea to allow us to NOT receive ImageDuels for the Instagram (or maybe even Mobile / iPhone / Android) categories.

Just as we can opt to not see Nudes, this would allow those users who have complained about the prevalence of (lower quality) Instagram images to avoid having to skip as many images as they are.

It would also save the folks at Pixoto having to cope with all our 'skipping' of these images, too!

I find participation in the image duels to be a good learning curve for me to see what composition and styles appeals to me, I certainly am no professional photo judge, I just pick what I like. During a brief 40 image duel session today, more than 60% of them were Instagram and in one set, 6 Instagram images in a row. This really is getting ridiculous, the quality of this site is diminishing every day.

Can we not have a filter as Dickon suggest to filter out these images from the duels?

Thanks, Steve. I guess it's a bit of a balancing act for Justin and the gang: they're keen to reach 1 million images, they're keen to reach 50 million votes polled.

They're also keen to keep the Instagrammers and Mobile users on the boat - it broadens the appeal of the site and, hence, the user base.

Unfortunately, and this is said with humility and the acceptance that there are many great iPhone (or other platform) photos being made, a great deal of the Instagram / Mobile imagery being submitted is poor. Poorly planned, poorly executed, poorly edited.

If we were able to select our own categories for ImageDuel, or deselect the ones we don't want to view, we would be more able to have a satisfactory judging experience.

Even more interesting, I suggest, would be how often people then chose to ImageDuel the Instagram subcategories... any? Ever?

It's a tradeoff, really, between popularity and quality.

Maybe we could have a choice of 'platforms' - DSLR, Mobile, Webcam and other...

Or, lastly, maybe we could just not vote for them - the Darwinian solution.

Let's hear what Justin and Team have to say...

Steve I agree with you, today is too Instagrama in duels. And it seems to me that the mass of scammers just use Instagram for their fraudulent actions

I tend to skip the instragram duels too, there are just to many of them, its boring, and not many of them are any good.
But I think the site is changing how they are downloaded soon which might reduce the numbers....hope so!!

Which have you chosen? How is it better? Can we make changes within Pixoto to make us better, too?

I can't tell u here in this forum. I got into the new site and found myself lost in navigation but getting used to it somehow.not very user friendly but I'll get used to it. the voting scheme is very promising. watermarks are allowed. there's no cash prize in all categories unless the site creates a contest with cash prize, no mobile category but Im fine with it, no speed voting (there's time delay) and there are professional togs who can comment and critic on photos. I'll see after a week if I can get used to the site.

In a recent post A few days ago Jason said he was going to be implementing a new system for Instagram. The way it will work is if a picture is oing to be uploaded it will have to have the hash tag of #Pixoto. He feels this will reduce the amount of instagrams by over 90%. Maybe we can give them a few days at least to set this up.

I think I'm wearing out the skip button because of those things. I once had a run of 7 Instagrams out of 20 duals....all bad and badder.

As has been mentioned, we are implementing the requirement to apply a hashtag to the Instagram image in order for it to come into Pixoto.

Please Help! In haste I closed my instagram account due to some confusion over a new privacy policy they have, after reading more about it I decided things were safe and so I opened up a new account, now I can't remove the old account linked to pixoto to replace it with my new account so I can upload my instagram photos to my pixoto account!

What amazes me is the points system. I achieved 12 or so top 5% of the year in Abstract category. Each 5% got me just over 3000 points. Yet a top 5% of the year in Instagram category score you 14000. lol....are you joking?. Are we encouraging people to turn to camera phones rather than trying your hardest to achieve a great photograph by controlling your own apertures, shutter speeds, depth of fields etc.

I think this is utterly insulting for members to be trounced by this points system.
Now im not saying for a second that some of the instagram images are good. Some are brilliant....but lets be serious....there taken on a mobile phone. Yet they score such high points.

Getting pretty silly. I just witnessed a member scoring hundreds of thousands of points because of instagram.....& now leading a nations leaderboard. What a shame on the other guys.

I am a member of another photography site, although there is judging involved every photograph is judged by a standard before it is allowed anywhere near the site.. now that may sound harsh but the standard is easily achievable no mobile photographs no instagram. all photographs mst have metadata.. why the need to be popular among the instagram mobile phone brigade, you will end up with members not going pro I am currently trialing it myself to see if it is worth the outlay.. i know the voting system has built in checks but judging should be like for like Landscape v cute cuddly kitten is not particularly objective..I know the stock answer will be the algorithm evens scores out...but does it really?

The only good thing to them having their own category is that they are not in the with the primary categories. When you think it about, it is better to Pass then to have them competing in pure categories.
