time delay on duels

What does any one think about having a 3 second time delay before being able to vote in a duel. This would make people think before they click and also help keep auto clicking to a minimum. I think this will help in making people choose more wisely when they decide which photo is better.

Nice idea Andrew. We've discussed it some time ago:

but did not get much traction. Maybe this time.

Persistence, patience, and implementation is how to get things done.

I'm with you. Even with 5 seconds!

3sec, 5sec, that's not the issue. The issue is thinking before voting (and not robo-voting).

I spend little time to read the duel category, a little time to look for watermarks (they used to be plenty the earlier days) and at the pictures before clicking a vote. So, 3sec is just as fine.

If you vote fairly then this isn't necessary whereas if you vote at speed in order to get points then any built in delay can be circumvented by simply opening a second, third and fourth window and voting at speed in rotation through the windows.

Actually thinking about it perhaps there could be a system that instead of clicking on the picture you wish to vote for you could be required to click on a button below it and these buttons could be made to appear in a random position below the pictures.
In this way auto voting scripts would be more of a challenge than they currently are and manual mindless voters would actually need to watch the screen when voting eh

To add to your suggestion, that random button should only appear after 3 seconds.

Yeah I thought about that but the multiple tabs concept sort of circumvents that eh

Below is an exchange I had with Jason 3 months ago...

--------------
...Also, as you may expect, it is very easy for someone to write a simple script to click on photos to collect voting credits (robo-voting!). This should also not be allowed. It would be better to have voting as a two step process (one select a photo and one submit the vote) and to make things more interesting, randomize the location of the “vote” button, so it does not appear in the same place all the time...
--------------

Random buttons, IP address (and ports), multiple sessions have all been discussed in the past. I guess it is all part of priorities (and man-power) from Pixoto side. The random button (+3 seconds) maybe something to resurface and ask more and more persistently for.

Of course, this not a panacea. But the more robust procedures are introduced, the less folks can cope with them. It won't eliminate all ill-practices (and ill-practicers), but by all means, if they can be easily implemented, it is a step in the right direction and it should not be discounted.

I think these are all very good suggestions. Hopefully the team will be able to use them. As more members join and more photos are uploaded I feel there is a need to put a solution in place to resolve these issues soon.

Hi :)

I'm relativly new on this site and my english is not too good but I hope that you'll understand my message.
Without knowing that you already discussed this issue I came up with this idea that a few second delay (3-5) sould solve the voting quality - wich I think is a serious problem on this site. All - except this - is nice, user frendly and working well. But in the last 2 months I came here on almost daily basis and I always grumbled because I see how stupid results can produce this robot-voting sistem.
I think that if you really want to do something about this and raise the voting quality you sould be shore that everyone vote on something that he understands, and people needs at least 3-5 second for that.
Delaying the votes for 5 second you will earn at least two-tree things:
- force people to see first the two picture and then vote - meaning much more quality votes
- in 5 second everyone will see if the picture has a watermark or not - robo-voting will skip this for shore. I used to vote like this in the first few weeks because I want more points in less time ...
- in 5 seconds everyone will see if the picture is "burned" with Photoshop or not. I dont use any kind of software like Photoshop, only just the Nikon's View NX - and I think for me it is perfect. Anyhow when I see a nice rose with waterdrops on it, but the red colour is all over the place ... I know: that rose was killed with Photoshop-like program. And be honest! No one can see this in a fraction of a second! And when I see That picture on the 1st place of the day ... I make my luggage and I go away.
So, I hope that the Administrators of this site will consider this as a constructive criticism, because I really like Pixoto and I consider it can be much better solving this issue.
