Why was the category changed on this image?.. Do you really consider this an Architectural image?

Did you by chance notice the sky.. and little restaurant on top... I have architecture shots... please go and look at my home page... my stuff is eclectic as can be.. I shoot just about everything but models in the studio and insects...

I'm none to happy about this image being yanked... and then placed in architecture..

Hello Alan, please check category description page: http://blog.pixoto.com/category-descr...

Since your image was submitted in Landscape category, and by our definitions Landscape category is:

"Photos where the natural scenery is a subject. If the subject is anything other than a natural scene (e.g. a city, a building, a person, an animal, a natural or man-made object) – don’t put it here. City, building, person, animal, natural or man-made object can be object in landscape photography that adds interest to the scene, but it must cover less then 20% of photo and must not dominate the landscape."

Based to description your image doesn't belong in Landscape category, but to Building and architecture category.

I hope this helps.

No... sorry. It really doesn't help.. The subject of the image is the dramatic dawn... The building frames it.

If it were over a beach, would it be a waterscape or a sunrise?

Are the rest of the images which depict sunrise or sunset void of land, trees, buildings, boats, beaches, trees ?

I understand, but feel it's quite picky considering we have bears dueling against butterflies..

When I categorize an image it is usually based on what I had in mind when I made the click.... That's all, quite simple to me. As you know I only came to Pixoto in December, I often struggled with Categories and subs then.. Apparently I haven't learned as much as I thought... ;-)

No anger intended... but I do vehemently disagree...

So the following are all sunset / sunrise..... this list could go on forever... a can of worms... As far as I'm concerned, they are ALL depicting drama in the sky...

But then, so was mine.....

Boats?

Suspended structures?

Hello Alan, thank you for reporting. #1 link is Landscape since boats are less then 20% of image, while others should be recategorized, so I have forwarded links to report team to recategorize them.

Please don't forward the links to anyone... in each and every one of these images the subject in the sunrise or sunset... It is nearly impossible to take a picture of the sun by itself.... I'm not reporting the images... there are hundreds just like them... just the fact that one has to have some part of mother earth, tress, buildings, horizon... something in a sunset or sunrise...

This happened to me, too, and my image was changed from Landscape travel to Buildings/Architecture (and I lost all my points) due to a dock in my picture consuming more than 20% of my picture, and that knocks it out of Landscape based on Pixoto's current rules. Many other people's pictures are being reported and are going to be changed based on their 20% rule . However, I provided a suggestion to Pixoto in my suggestion threads where I ask them to allow photos to be kept in Landscape if at least 51% of the photo contains natural scenary and up to 49% can be man-made (such as docks/piers/buildings/people/etc). You may want to find my suggestion (today's) and support it (with star and comment) to get Pixoto's attention to it. Thanks.

They got you too, Alan? I had mine recategorized from Landscape to Architecture because of the silly 20% rule. I would not have been too annoyed if they apply it to everybody. I guess togs are divided into two: "sacred cows" and "chopped livers" and I believe I belong to the latter. LOL!!

Ahhh... as long as they apply the rules fairly...

I don't want any of the images I linked removed or re-categorized... Anyone who truly believes that my image is a "picture of a building" just does not understand how I see the world.....

Cheers, Alan

In my case, it was a silhouetted structure set against a sunset. You can't even see the architectural features and details of the structure since the sunset is really the main subject, the silhouette is just an added feature. Yet, it was recategorized to Architecture where it sillily exists.

I'm actually quite disappointed that this happened.. I posted several links. It seems petty and purely subjective..

You may be correct... and I'm aware that my sacred cow status is nearer to cheeseburger....
