the new point system is a great change

my rank 1 image for the day got 942 point and the my images on the top 20% got only 7 points. total photo submission on that category on that day is only 158.

so no matter how many images a tog submits daily and his images don't belong to the top 10 images then the tog can't climb up fast to the leaderboard. How I wish this was done long time ago. but anyways this system is great.

As you've noted, we made a major change to the point system associated with Award wins. We place a lot more emphasis on #1-10.

Glad you're enjoying the new system!

Justin, I too like it in principle for its emphasis on quality over quantity, and its potential to level the playing field for new players.
Am I right if I suspect that this year's "Best Photographers" awards will be based on these points, instead of based on average ImageScores (such as last year's awards)? I suspect that, because ImageScores among this year's images within a category might no longer be comparable after the category restructure.

I don't think we've thought through Best Photographers of 2012 yet. We are quite busy with everything else. :-)

I like the idea behind the system but in a category that gets a large quantity of images, like wildlife for instance, which regularly gets roughly 2000 images a week, the top 10 places represents the top Half a percent !! Thats a 99.5% of images will miss it !?

Thats a very small target to achieve ! wouldnt it be fairer to increase the catchment to top 20 for instance ?

Just a thought ?

yeah. I like it - top 20. top 10 is already too tough to get in

I think it's interesting and probably makes sense. We will chat about it; though, it will take a while to get it implemented I think. We have a ton of work on our plate right now.

Is this something Pixoto might consider especially for week/month awards ? when you consider the numbers involved ?

Yeah. Consider this (from Day of 7/22/12 awards in People category):
#1: 3438 pts
#10: 1031 pts
Top 5%: 171 pts
Top 10%: 85 pts
Top 20%: 28 pts

I would surely hate it if my image got ranked #11, for it would get SIX times less points than if it were ranked #10!. Hehe.
I can only hope the transition (between #10 and Top 5%) would be smoother for weekly and monthly awards.
