Suggestion

JUST A SUGGESTION. I've been a member of pixoto for more or less one year now and I've seen a lot of things(problems) happened. Let say I submit a photo on Nature Up Close category. To avoid bias or unfair voting, I should be restricted to vote in that category. Pictures that will appear on my duels should be from other categories and not from any of the nature up close category. And maybe limit the amount of photos per category and the number of categories per day to ensure that the voting will still go on. I don't know if my idea will help. I just thought about it and I was hoping that it would help the pixoto community. Thank you...

I'm confused about your suggestion, Asher. Are you saying that you want photos that are entered into one Category to duel against the photos in all the other categories but not duel in the category where they belong? Or are you saying that if a photographer submits photos into a category they shouldn't be allowed to vote in that category?

Lenore, I think Asher is suggesting that if a photographer enters photo in one category he shouldn't be able to vote for photos from that category.

Yes, Jasenka that's what I mean. Because sometimes it's too obvious that a better photo is defeated by the other photo, if you know what I mean. Although we cannot judge everyone's choice. You will be tempted to vote for the uglier one simply because your photo is just a little behind his. That's why I came up with this idea. If I submit a photo in that category, in all my image duels I should not be given any of the photos from that same category to avoid the temptation to be bias.

Given the large number of entries in flowers and people I'm not sure that would really work.

Yeah, I thought about it too. That's why, I came up with another suggestion to this problem. Limit the number of category, let say 3 or 4 categories only per day so that the voting can still go on. Also limit the entries per category let say 5 photos is the most you can upload in one category. Because some people upload 8 or more photos in just one category. But it's just a suggestion, I'm not sure if it will work or not. I just thought of something that might help the pixoto community to avoid collisions.

It must be remembered though that this is a stock photography site and you can't limit the ability of people to post images; that doesn't make financial sense for Pixoto to do that and contributors who are making money would be very unhappy at having their potential earnings limited in any way. Neither Shutterstock or iStockPhoto limit photo submissions.

Oh, yeah, haven't thought about it. I don't know what's best to balance these things.

Asher, it's not something I would spend time worrying about. I bet lots of people never look at the Leaderboard anyway and have no idea where their photo is sitting until they receive the pleasant surprise of an award. I know I rarely look :-)

Well, yeah, it's just that, every time I visit this community section, I always see comments like, cheating, bias etc...for myself I'm okay with my photos, coz I'm doing it for fun, more like a hobby and I like this site. I came up with those ideas...to help those who think they didn't make it because they were cheated or they were voted unfairly. :-)
