What about adding three sub-categories to the Black & White section? Eg. People, Animals, Other. I find it really difficult in image duels to select the better image between two excellent pictures one of, say, a dramatic landscape and the other a portrait.

Thank you for suggestion Ingrid. Since all images within one category compete each other regardless of subcategories, they could still duels each other.

I hope this helps.

I know there is always a chance of that happening, in whatever category a picture is in but could you put this suggestion forward anyway? It really would be helpful to have just three broad subcategories in B&W. ;-)

so there would not be a single category of Black and White.. you want three black and white categories, just as there are multiple colour categories. each category would be subdivided like the colour ones. the question remains if there would be enough entries in that many additional categories to justify the additional categories. at the present time I don't think so... the site seems to be shrinking rather than expanding.

Nope, Joyce, A single B&W category with just three SUB-categories within the B&W so that IF there are enough in the broader category, they are better categorized- otherwise there is the argument for having ALL animals lumped together and how does one compare a spider with a tiger if both shots are great in their own way? Just a thought to make things easier. I also think that there should be a HDR category so that HDR images of similar subject matter aren't set along-side a normal (albeit excellent) image- the HDR one usually wins hands down! That's just my little thought on the matter and I certainly have no sway on the running of the site. I hope it's not shrinking, as you suggest.

But Black and White already has 10 sub-categories... I am confused at what you are asking for then. are you suggesting dropping 7 of the ten categories? they already have Abstract, Animals, Buildings, flowers and plants, landscapes, Macro, Objects and still life, Portraits and People, Sports, Streets and candid. As Jasenka said, all sub-categories duel against all other sub-categories. generally speaking, the initial duels with in a subcategory is only for the first 3 duels at the most.. then it is a free for all across the full category. At least that has been my experience. And that is the case for all the colour categories too. I agree that the most confusing for everyone is where to put insects lol, like real bugs, they tend to show up in Animals, landscape, flowers, Nature up Close.

Oh, well that's okay then. It's just that whenever I upload B&W those options are not available. Must investigate.
