Scoring and duel question

I'm still new, but have read nearly everything I can find out how this site operate but I'm still confused regarding image scores, duels and novice categories.

I am most certainly a novice and I always tag my photos as such. It appears as though my photos are being included in image duels against photos that are NOT novices. I'm not whining and saying I think mine should win, I'm just very confused as to how novices are being scored.

I think I may be mixing questions here but based on my understanding, my photos have low image scores based on losing duels. They are then automatically paused because they "statistically will not reach the top ten percent". I had one image that won 9 out of 18 duels (50%) which was then paused as being too low. If it won 50% of the very few duels it was in, why would it stop at such a small comparison ?

My image with score of 251 is being compared to an image with a score of 650. Shouldn't my images be compared against other novices, or other images with low scores as well?

I really have read the "How image scoring works" at least ten times. Perhaps someone else who is also a novice could try to explain it to me in a different manner that is easier to understand? If so I would be very appreciative.

Note: This topic was created from a reply on the Confused About Novice Category??? topic.

Hello Jacki,

If you put your images in Novice category they will duel only images that are submitted to Novice category. Tagging has no impact on duels, so if you post your photos to other categories then Novice, they will duel all photos in the category you have submitted them.

Images can be paused at less then 18 duels if they are statistically not likely to reach top ten percent. You can see why win/loss ratio can not be used to calculate image score explained here: http://blog.pixoto.com/2012/09/why-wi...

Can you please post link to image in question? When you look at images your photo has dueled with you see current score each image has, not score thex had at the time of duel.

I hope this helps.
