The fact that some images keeps on dueling over and over again with each other was discussed in another thread among other problems. Because this is an important issue I open this new thread to discuss this matter exclusively. For whatever reason, sometimes (and lately often) images get stuck dueling with the same image. I get that the same images meet three or four times, but if the score is settled and the other one wins all the time, why keep pairing up the same images? The algorithm clearly needs fixing on this part or is Pixoto’s official policy to downvote some images like this when there are hundreds of images to choose from in the duels? Lately I’ve had two of my top images suddenly getting stuck with another image in duels with devastating results on my part. I don’t understand the reason for this and I’ve never received any answer although I’ve asked for one. In such cases the outcome is seldom fair and it doesn’t prove that one of the images is better. If images would meet different images in the duels the outcome would more accurately measure the standard of the images. As a matter of fact it would show an average of different tastes, cultural preferences and ultimately and hopefully how good (or well liked) a certain image really is. I’m totally fed up with this and I want to know why this keeps on happening.

Hi Mia,

the issue that recently happened is that the same user was presented with the same 2 images in duels numerous times, and that has been corrected (as much as we know nobody else reported that they see same 2 images repeatedly in duels while they vote).

If I understand correctly, you are frustrated because your image gets in duels with same image many times, right?

There are different reasons why image will duel the same image, and some are:
1) small number of images in the subcategory (which is 2 out of 3 duels)
2) even smaller number of unpaused images in the subcategory that are also close to the same imagescore
3) when new images come in they need to duel with live images that are close in score and they rotate through the available images. So the later duels are not so much to find the correct score of this users images but instead to find the correct score of the new image coming in.
4) images have the same image scores and they need to duel each other because 2 images cannot take the same position on leaderboards

Please bear in mind that every time your image is again in a duel with that image different users are voting, it is not the same user that is voting on all those duels.

Nothing has changed in 17 days. One of my images keeps on dueling with the same image over and over again. This has happened although the images aren't close in score. I'm beyond frustrated. It can't be normal that an image meets another one tens of times when there is a lot of other images to choose from. Why is this happening? And Jasenka, the reasons you gave me doesn't explain this. If someone has experienced the same lately or can explain this, please tell me!

At his point of time, 31.12.2018 in the evening, one of my images has dueled with another one 42 times. I think it's highly excessive and I truly suspect there's something wrong with the algorithm. I've gathered a list of about 50 images in the nearby score range and sent it to Jasenka and Scott wondering why the algorithm doesn't choose any of these as a pair for my image. I've waited for weeks for a proper answer to my question concerning this case. I would like to have an explanation. All I get is the same old repeated and well known basic criteria for repeated dueling. These rules doesn't though explain my case which is so over the top. Why is this happening to me?
