Repetitious Submissions

Will Pixoto EVER consider limiting the number of submissions in a category each day? Sadly, I am fast losing interest because of those that submit 20-30 images in a single day. It's exceedingly boring. Surely the photographers can be encouraged to be more discerning in their submissions.

Yes please!! At least limit the number of submissions to a subcategory. Preferably no more than 5 per day per subcategory. Yesterday in a rather desperate attempt to highlight the issue I posted about ten photos to one subcategory... Grrrrr.

Please Pixoto!

I don't mind the multiple postings in one category as long as they are not of the same subject.... that is really boring... I realize sometimes we are limited as to subjects to photograph.. but at least mix them up and change them, easy enough to do....or spread them out so that they are not all posted at once...

Agree JoAnn ...that's why I'd like to see some restrictions that would make a photographer more discerning in their submissions....I totally agree that some have limited subjects, I'm one of them ... but I choose carefully and submit only 1 or 2 of the same subject in a given week. I enjoy seeing variety in a category, which usually means being able to see more photographers, not more pictures of the same subject back-to-back-to-back.

I am usually careful not to submit more than one or two of the same species in a week. This week I submitted around 8 pics of the same species on the same day in protest - and received several awards for my trouble (LOL). I guess that is why these folks do it. Award hunting, not considering anything else, such as keeping things interesting and showing new things.

Anyhow, I shan't be doing that again for a while. Felt pretty grim to break my own principles.

haha... I guess the awards is indeed of more importance to some. LOL on your protest. I suppose I could submit a bunch at a time as well, but they wouldn't get awards....and they would be quite boring.

not too sure about that - your pics win plenty of awards, loads in top ten of day, etc. But the awards are - in most instances at least - secondary to enjoying the photograph taking and the sharing (for me any way).

you're very kind ... but I'll take a ton of pictures and usually only one or two will look worthy of sharing. I suppose for those with more talent/better equipment it's harder to discern...lol

I know when I see a photo that someone took that is totally original.. it even causes me to pause and really study the photo and technique and wish I could contact the photographer to give them some well deserved praise.. though I see you can add it to your favorites.. and probably track them down that way... but how refreshing to see something totally new...

.... usually makes me wish I had more talent AND better equipment. :-) But ultimately, I too enjoy studying the finely crafted art that so many people display.

I have learned a lot since I joined up with pixoto.. I always thought I could take good photos, until I got here and saw what really good photos where and the difference a lens can make in quality... still learning !

@ SoCalGal - you are also a point and shoot photographer, and do very well with it too. It forces one to focus on composition and subject - not a bad thing at all in the long run.

Your SX30IS is a very cool camera (I use the SX20IS - as well as a little 3.1MP Olympus) - but the longing for a DSLR with all those lens opportunities IS quite tantalising.

@gaiafrique --- yes, a DSLR and the opportunities are, as you say, tantalizing. For now I enjoy the challenge of trying to 'compete' with those more talented and with better equipment. In the end I'm not looking for recognition, it's fun to try my best and see what I could have done better in comparison to others.

Don't sell point and shoots out just yet. You're both producing good pics. I've seen DSLR quality images that make you go WOW, only to find they've been shot with point and shoot cameras, often no more than 3.1mp. The person is more important than lens or camera, if you don't have an eye for it you will not get good images, but if you do it doesn't matter what you use....

Thank you from me too!

It is the opportunities which are opened up by zoom and macro lenses which have me drooling for a DSLR. I have no illusions whatsoever that my picture comp, quality or subject would improve - just the ability to take from further away, or get that tad closer in ;)

I liked this picture so much I added it to my favourites

It doesn't necessarily point to why an individual tog submits so many similar images, but does go some way towards why we see so many pictures of flower heads.

Also explains how I see many almost exact duplicate flower images but from different togs....I wonder if there is a water lilly/lotus photographing club somewhere?
