It would only be real if the shot was taken in Raw and not Jpg - the camera has settings that alter a Jpg so would not be as you put it 'real'.

I think she means point and shoot, with no after manipulation. This is a good idea.

There is a lot people do to pictures after thay are taken 'enhance color, delete objects and touch-ups',
I do not know how you would police this!

Many point and shoot cameras will do the so called after manipulation for you and therefore the only straight from the camera option is as Pat mentioned, shoot in RAW and do a straight conversion to jpg.

I have so say I really do not see the point in it though.

Just for completeness here is a picture taken with a point and shoot that had the hdr option switched on would you consider this to be straight from the camera?

This good open conversation. thank you. I am not sure of the end solution but we are on the right way. I of two options.
1. straight raw this will allow for minor adjustments bust not photoshop
2.same as Moritz said above. allowing also allowing for jpg.

The idea though is for artistic ability from the camera not the shoo
again thank you

Let's assume this category is created.
How do you propose it's policed?

Maybe you could have a category like landscapes and nature that is shot in raw, and must contain all exif info straight from camera. put it as a spec when uploading photo under that category, so that once it is uploaded, nobody has to "police" it.

Makes no difference, I can edit a file and still retain the exif data.
The only way to check is to have someone manually compare the RAW file to the submitted file.

This is the way it's done on some other sites but it is very labour intensive and is therefore only carried out for winning pictures and random selections.

I'm still not grasping why there is such objections to editing pictures

Thank you Will I agree with you and maybe the judge could do this verification on the winner-s so that it would not be in so labor intensive, - as on other sites. Myself I am not in "objecting to editing" it is editing in layers or going beyond what the camera itself,or what it is capable of. I believe both concepts are forms of art. 1st the ability to take good photos. the 2nd the ability to manipulate in Photoshop as to make your photo look better or even beyond reality. I love your positive responses thank you
