Hello Anthony, in of the contests you are referring to Judge's award is chosen by Pixoto voters. So Pixoto users voted on those images and made them winners (or top 3 places as case may be).
Also, all the contests are for Typography, where those 3 users submit mostly great images.

Anthony, my purpose in running those contests is to stir more interest in that category. For the past year, Asif, Koh and I have been the primary contributors to that category. We need more competition! Lately Rita, Michael and a few others have joined in. Yea!!! If you are new to Typography, I encourage you to continue adding submissions. I think over time, you will get a feel for what works on Pixoto and what doesn't. I do find that resubmitting my entries often gives a different result since there are so few entries in the typography category... it just depends on who is voting and what images the computer puts your image against. Over time though, great images usually rise to the top. I usually enter my contests, particularly the typography contests to raise the bar and add entries so the winners get more credits. I monitor the voting along the way. If any of my images are in the top three and Koh or Asif are also there, I leave my entry in. If, on the other hand, disqualifying my image would make you or one of the other contributors win a prize, then I am more than happy to do that. So keep trying. I'd be delighted to DQ my images to help boost you (or others new to the category) to a win.
