I have 2 pictures reported as similar by a very "respectable" tog in this community. Mark Zouroudis. Now i do admit it was a lapse/mistake on my part for failing to delete the first version of the said photo. The first photo did not get any award of any sort so i re adjusted and re edited it and submitted it again... but i forgot to delete the first version... there was no evil intention of "going around the duplicate filter" as what this respectable elderly gentleman is trying to stir up. What's the point of keeping both photos when one simply did not garner any award. There was no foul intention/ no malice intended there as what Mark Z. wanted to imply. it was just simply forgotten. and also the 2nd version did not do too well either all the more reason for me to forget those two photos. Again it was just a lapse on my part and forgot to delete the first version.

For me i have no qualms about reporting and policing because it is necessary to do just that. But the manner of reporting must be proper. Formal. With out any personal, opinionated context. It must be objective and straight to the point.

Making a report and add a story to it to make it more interesting/malicious is not good. and we don't need that here in our community. Putting malice over someones actions is just so pathetic.

I am posting his report. Try to see how he does it. What is he trying to prove? what is he trying to stir up? over 2 forgotten non ranking photos?

This tog has tried to get around the duplicate filter and posted these two pics one day apart.

Check out these two pics

and

Dmitri has rotated slightly, changed the size and the contrast but it is the same pic.

I reported this a couple days ago but no action to date.

I think he is such a cry baby if you ask me especially when the admins failed to notice his reports even on a Christmas day. Even Andrew Halpern advised him to wait for a few days as the admin are celebrating their holiday and the employees are home with their families but still went on and on with his obssession.

Sometimes there seems to be a personal agenda behind his reporting if you look on the other threads that he started or other threads that he so excitedly joined. He even failed to check one togs profile before agreeing with him regarding similar pics. It turned out that tog has been submitting almost similar pics as well as pointed out by another tog.

http://community.pixoto.com/pixoto/to...

He might even be referring to you and some other togs as group of photographers that have similar pics. It is more of a personal jab for me rather that pure good intentions. How could you enjoy photography as he claimed to be when he seems to be enjoying more about whining than winning..oh I forgot he is not interested in awards. Why does he resubmit his images then like almost everyday.

http://community.pixoto.com/pixoto/to...

While it is helpful to report miscategorization and similar images, I agree with you that there is a proper way of doing it.

My thoughts exactly John. He has taken this reporting duty into a some kind of a personal vendetta against me and some other photographers here. Thanks for your links. i hope this problem gets settled before it gets out of hand.

There are a number of photographers who submit "very similar" images. Tragically, newcomers to the site pick this trait up and run with it too, often copying the award-winning photographers' subject matter in the hopes of also winning awards. It is frustrating and is also impossible to know the photographer's intentions - hence reporting the issue on this forum is often one of the most effective means of dealing with the issue - I shouldn't take it personally.

What point am I making? Simply take the flak, move on - and make sure (everyone - not just you Dmitri) to remove duplicates/recrops/rotations/etc. Given the fact that there are so many similar photos of a waterlily - it is rather amazing that anyone would have looked twice (although some of us might have felt rather sleepy and yawned loudly and impolitely).

Just as an aside - My guess is that there are so many similar photos of e.g. waterlilies or lotuses that even the photographers who took them would find it hard sometimes to remember whether the photos belonged to them or not.

I do agree with you gaiafrique. 100%. in fact that photo he reported was the only instance in my account where 2 exact same photos were submitted. and i have removed one of the 2 already.

my point in opening this thread is very plain and simple, "Make the reporting proper, objective and straight forward."

Mark has taken this reporting duty into a whole different level... he has been making a controversy out of the simplest matters. my case for example.

i think the reason why pixoto has not removed those duplicates of mine because they were at the bottom of my photo line up and considered irrelevant. but still it was wrong and so i thank Mark for reminding me. but the manner of reporting was just so unsuitable. putting malice over someones actions is just so improper.

i hope you get my point.

Yup got it now! Sorry (apology) I missed your main point from the outset, agree wholeheartedly that the reporting should remain as objective as possible.

I totally agree with you that reporting some issues in this forum is an effective means of dealing with them and should not be taken personally as long as the reporting wasn't personal. Looking back at some past threads you could find some healthy discussions regarding different issues some or most togs encounter and you could always see the good intentions in them. One of the most previous one was regarding patrick cole submitting images not his own.

I believe somebody brought up the idea where it would also be a good idea to bring the attention to the tog first before making it so public in this community as "some" of us may had made some unintentional mistakes.

Ive seen most of the threads you've joined gaiafrique and has been a big fan of how you provide comments and insights on your part. Hope to see more healthy discussions as we start the new year. happy shooting to all.

Happy New Year to you and all others too!

Regarding the messaging to photographers - a quick message to let them know that there is a problem with the submission category works so well - have done it a number of times, especially where the category is so clearly wrong (e.g. an elephant in the bird section) - however folks can get a bit tetchy if you ask them about duplicates, which is why Dmitri's point about making an objective and clear issue on the forum is the best means to deal with the matter.

See you around... ;)

Yes I believe so. That raises another issue as most might find it offensive as well especially when the message does not come from the employees or the admins themselves. Oh well, I guess for now we have to rely on other togs fair judgement and reporting of matters regarding the rules and regulations afterall this is a community. Sometimes we just had to put up with others nonsense or unless until there is a definite rules to follow like the the number of images submitted in a day in the other forum. If I may also add, I guess a lot of togs here are not even aware of this community/forum and are unaware of the different discussions that have been posted.

Oh well, I think we just have to enjoy the reason why most of us are here...the love for photography. So still, happy shooting everyone.

Hi Dmitri, good to see that you have gone through your pics and removed a couple duplicate/slightly altered pics but here's
one that you missed, you must have forgotten to delete the first one (the one that won the awards) before you submitted the
second one that you blacked out the background.

first in August 2012

Is this a recrop of the same image? The wind ripples on the water certainly look like it.

We all have slipped up - rather spend time looking for the serial offenders with manifold pics the same - the hundreds of bug eyes with the same water drops, the thousands of dahlias, roses, lotuses and waterlilies, etc. These are the folks who are ripping the site and the players by submitting many similar pics daily.

Better still - spend time taking lovely photos and enjoying the ride! Have a lovely year...

No gaiafrique, not a recrop, the first was taken from the spot looking to the left and the second was taken looking straight down the river. I decdided to post the one looking to the left and archived the second. When the Blank and White Landscape comp was on a little while ago I went to my unused pics and converted it to B & W and posted it in the competition. Not a slip up.

oh grow up

But thanks for taking time going through all my photos... I guess you like them don't ya?

I will be deleting the one with the grandest award of "NONE" thanks Mark!

Oh one more thing! the most important of matters Mr. Zouroudis. try to be more professional in calling a TOGs attention... be more objective about it... remove your subjective opinion about other TOGs.. it will make your policing more respectable!

if you were wondering why Pixoto has not responded to your report? it is because those pics of mine that you reported were at the bottom of my gallery. and to my knowledge if a photo is not a top 10 contender the admin will not be so strict in policing it. (but i will delete it anyway...)

no cheating agenda was intended here... if i intended to cheat and rack up points i should have had duplicated my high ranking photos and not of photos which were at the bottom of the pile. cmon man... common sense. its a no brainer that it was just a slip or a case of forgetfulness.

Cheers! Have a Happy 2013!

Dmitri what a strange individual you are. First you have a go at me for pointing out that people where posting in the wrong category (backgrounds). You then "follow" me on my page, you either love my pics or you wanted to check that I didn't do anything outside the rules, I expect the latter. Naturally your following me caused me to have a look at your pics. I did report them the normal way and when there was no action from Pixoto staff I brought it out in this forum. Since then you deleted a couple of duplicates and re worked pics and left this message on this forum.

Oh no... i tried going around the duplicate filter... how very bad of me...

policing is good Mark... but making up "intentions/stories" for me is a silly girls job

Thanks for reminding me Mark... reason for this is i just totally forgot about it since it did not win any award i thought it would not matter... but thanks anyway... resubmitting photos is a norm... re editing and resubmitting... as long as no two same photos exist right? so there... my bad... deleted one photo...

. are there any other photos in my gallery that are one and the same? feel free to make up stories that i tried to go around the filter again. i would be more than happy to delete one of them. ^_^ Edit Delete Remove ,"

I then point out as per your wishes to let you know that you have missed one. then you go off again.

Tell me have you found any rule that I have breached?

Dmitri, you obviously don't give me much credit for being able to interpret your actions. You started following me shortly after I pointed out your indiscretions. The statements you have made on this forum indicate that it isn't because you think I'm a good tog. The only other reason would be so that you could check for any indiscretions on my part. You can look as much as you like.

I am not here as Pixoto looking to win great number of awards here or amass great number of points (neither is important to me). I am here to compare my pics to others and in do so look to improve my photography. I do however, like to compete within the rules and not bend and break them in order to win. That is why I speak up and will continue to do so when I think appropriate.

You are one sad man really. you keep on pointing at my indiscretions in the backgrounds category? why? because i racked up a few awards? LOL! was i the only one doing it? even you did it. You submitted a flower portrait right? LOL!

The reason for that chaos... coming from the admin man himself... the rules for that category was flawed.. reason why they closed it.

And... you are far out... no where near interpreting my actions man... no Sir... Your interpretations of my actions are your own thoughts of what the world is to you.

Hey. you might want to check my new photos in nature up close. There might be indiscretions there! You know... i might be cheating! going around the duplicate filter.... LOL! Keep up your good work mate! i mean in policing pixoto that is... Cheers!

"LOL! was i the only one doing it? even you did it. You submitted a flower portrait right? LOL!"

Yes Dmitri, I did and I thought I had removed all the wrongly categorized pics. When gaiafrique pointed out that I had missed one I moved it immediately, no hoo haa, no going on about it. What have you done to atone for your actions????.

I don't bother policing your or anyone else's pics here. I had a look at your pics after you had "followed" me and noticed a couple pics that did not look right and reported them. When the pixoto crew hadn't responded I put them on this forum. I have better things to do than waste my time looking at your pics. Last time I looked there was a few lotus being posted on the same day, my reaction was "ehh" and haven't been back to look at your pics since. You seem to be more interested in winning points and awards, that's ok if that's all you want.

I like to take a variety of pics and try to improve my photography, currently sport mainly, next week probably animals and who knows what after that as I go along the improvement seems to be happening slowly. I would be a sad man if I had to keep posting pics of the same subject time after time to win awards to somehow prove to myself and others that I was a good tog.
