Shouldn't an image that is clearly a product of Photoshop be placed in the Photoshop Art category?

That depends on what you mean by a "product of Photoshop". If the image is a composite of multiple images then yes. If there is just heavy editing... not necessarily. Can you send a link to the image in question so we can take a look?

Thanks!

An image such as this....which would be an excellent entry in in Photoshop Art, has no business being entered in Landscape & Nature >> Flowers and Plants

Or this one:

It's a beautifully done image.....but it should be entered in Photoshop Art.

so why is it that you have this entered in "Fine Art - Things" instead of Flowers and Plants?

you actually have several that could also be questionable in category, Ms. C....

Continuing to point out the same person constantly makes you look like you have a personal vendetta....

Yes Linda, some might think you have a personal interest in my photographs. I already asked this question myself and here is a link to the answer I received:

http://community.pixoto.com/pixoto/to....

I do think the categories need clarification here as they do run amok. Fine Art? What is that? I see it is filled with flowers such as these that probably really belong in flowers, but the competition is tough over there, especially with all the amazing landscapes :)

So actually one of the ones that I have posted might be better suited to Fine Art, so I think I will move it there. Thanks for the idea. I do hope you are having a Happy Holidays.

To answer you both...........
All my photos you listed were taken in the studio. I suppose that would be the reason I have them entered in Fine Art. There really isn't a very good distinction here as to what defines the Fine Art category. All could equally be considered in the Landscape & Nature>>Flowers & Plants.......as this one was:

An image that has major editing has a category intended for it.

Perhaps Julie you could follow your own list of 'mines'.
The site I mentioned was purely about photography, as is this site, as it should be. I sited it to show my own faults in brokeh.......a site to learn and do better.
Enough said......let's agree to let it go.

you make it very hard to let it go becuz your attitude towards people sucks. I would prefer that you stop replying as I will find it very hard to let this go when I still find a need to be defensive in your cruel and thoughtless presence.

in fact,, my post that you responded to today was almost a week old...perhaps you should put your shovel away and stop looking for trouble and dredging it back up when all others thought it had died. No matter what you say , you cannot defend your behavior towards others. Nothing at all to do with photography...just your attitude. Have you tried prozac or zoloft?

Yes flowers taken in Studio are usually considered Still Lifes, I think that is something that I have said before. It would be really nice to have a Still Life Category here as I put on my other thread about categories.

http://community.pixoto.com/pixoto/to...

I think the reply regarding major editing is composite of multiple images, the ones you referenced aren't multiple images, just single images with filters applied. So I do feel that Justin answered the question and these images aren't considered Photoshop Art on this particular site.

I am very flattered that you are following my work so closely. :)

I have to agree......competition is tough in the landscape/nature/flower/plants category. But It makes me work harder, think more creative, rethink composition, color, etc. I like it. But on the other hand a Still Life category would be great. And better yet, a new category for flowers is needed. So they are not competing with nature. We need Flowers with sub categories of plants, vines, leafs, seeds, fungi, trees, etc. Then competition would much more fair. A little flower against a beautiful mountain, etc in nature doesn't quite match up. The odds are against the flower. Just my 2 cents this morning.

Sandy, great ideas for flower sub categories. Perhaps you could add that to the other thread, just in case Admin is watching it for ideas :)

I think Still Lifes could be equally divided.

Since many images could be placed in more than one catagory including the ones posted here - then why has the question arose.

the site is new and hopefully will evolve with more catagories to eliviate the issue you have.

Now how about selecting other artists to make your points and give Shirley a rest.

Happy New Year :)

Hey Linda I assume you shoot in RAW and do a straight conversion to jpg before uploading.
If not your camera is using it's own software to enhance your picture and by your definition your pictures should then of course be in photoshop art eh

You know Will, there's a big difference to what you are referring to and the images I questioned, but you go ahead and spin it whatever way you want.

Linda you're banging the same old drum on DA as well.
I just get hacked off with people thinking that editing pictures is in some way not part of the photographic process.

So Linda do you shoot in RAW and just do a straight jpg conversion or do you use photoshop for anything?

Will, I do not shoot RAW. I use photoshop to sharpen. But once again.....that is not what the OP was about. You say 'editing'.....I say changing the image entirely.
As to the other site.....I did not start a thread, but merely posted to one titled 'Knowing how to use Photoshop'.

Linda if you do not shoot in RAW then it is most likely the case that your camera's onboard software is enhancing the picture for you.

Whilst I agree with you that pictures that have been heavily modified should most likely sit in the art category I do not see that this applies to pictures that have been enhanced to give more pop or had backgrounds cleaned etc etc.

It's very hard to please people on these sites. I submitted a picture in an art category on another site as I felt I'd processed it to that point but got questioned as to what made it digital art and voted down.
