Pixoto: What's going on?

I am worried about Pixoto. Submission rates seem to be down, contests never close when they should, monthly awards are still not issued on time, the yearly awards schedule for 2018 hasn't been published yet although it's April 2019 by now and worse of all: many old members have either already moved on and left the site or diminished their activity considerably. It seems that people are tired of having to ask for answers to the same questions week after week, month after month without getting any meaningful answers. Is this how it's going to be? If you share my worries, please comment on this topic!

So true,  Pixoto shouldn't make promises they can't keep.  It's just sad.

We hope to earn back your trust Dave.  We are actively working to overhaul and make Pixoto better. We will work better to keep everyone up to date on what is happening behind the scene and provide more frequent updates.

I had renewed hope for a bit when Scott was active.  When he was absent for weeks at a time in December because of the holidays, I knew that was a bad sign.  Nobody wants to work during the holidays but it's needed when you have a business to run (or at least hire someone to work on it during the absence).  Sad - it was a great site.  I haven't submitted this year and have no interest until I see consistent improvement.  But I have zero hope that will ever happen unless it gets sold to someone who cares.

Kind of depressing, as this has been a vibrant site and a terrific source for actually viewing great photography around the world.

Hi Mia, thank you for your contribution, i`m afraid, no matter how often we report issues or suggestions nothing will ever happen to sett the pixoto world on "fire"!

Submissions are down because lots of photographers gave up and left the site, thats why contests never close on time, not enouph voters!

You, me and others, have made over the years so many constructive suggestions and proposals and never got a satisfactory reply and very often not even an answer.

Sometimes we are lucky to receive a "positive" answer from Scott, mostly  whith lots of intends and promises that by a majority never get transformed.

Very often i couldn`t help thinking, that this is only  delaying tactics!

Last year (2018) i haven`t entered any images and so this year. I gave up like lots of other Photographers,  looks as if this is Pixotos intend and goal, or how could you explain pixotos behavior?

I think we all had sufficient patience over the years, its time to admit that all our hopes, efforts, suggestions ideas etc. are a waste of time and going down the drain but, ..........  Scott can put me right!  *lol*

The truth sometimes hurts!

Renos, the contests not closing on time are actually due to the opposite.  The amount of votes allocated by the system to contests was not sufficient to keep up with the amount of submissions.

Over all, the number of votes have been up, but due to a fix that limited the amount of contests votes a user could see, prevented the system from keeping up getting the appropriate votes for challenges.

We plan on getting this addressed, but considering that the contests do end up closing, it is not a high priority issue at this time.  Plan on seeing it fixed within a 90 day timeframe.

To summarize:
Ironically, the contest issue was created by a higher number of submissions which was followed by an increase in duels, but the duels were not properly allocated to the contests.

Hi everybody,
I totally agree with your recriminations and your comments.
I have already raised many problems, without any response from Pixoto, but also without much assistance from my colleagues... or almost!
It is true that there are a lot of malfunctions, few participants, quite a lot of frustrations.
The lack of participation of many of us easily explains the problems of declining votes, messy contest management, and so many other malfunctions.
But I am an eternal optimist, and as the song says, I still believe in it and I continue... and I realize that I am not the only one.
And I also realize that over the last four years my results remain at the same level, even if the conditions have not improved... That said, I sincerely believe that it is certainly not by stopping any activity on the site that things will progress.
There are also behaviors from participants that perhaps need to be changed...
Useful voting, for example, plenty of submission (over 50 images/day from some), systematic demolition of good images and so on.
So it’s true that waiting weeks to get the monthly or annual awards is boring, but when you finally get them, what pleasure isn’t it?
Me I hope in the futur and my only request today would be for Scott to communicate a little more often.
Regards

Gérard, your continued optimism is greatly appreciated.  I apologize for the lack of communication and will work hard to improve the communication between the company and its users.   Thank you.

I too having been wondering why it has taken over a week for the 100 duals on one photo I submitted.  It also has astounded me that in the course of three days, I had only 2 wins on a perfectly adorable animal face, and when I checked the photos that were winners, they had no similarity to the quality or focus of my submission.  I had never seen such poor competition become a winner.  I was about to delete my image and re-submit but decided to be gracious.  It is still waiting for its promised 100 duals.  Does Pixoto cut off the duals if the image does poorly in the beginning stages?

Hello Rita, images that does poorly will still get 100 duels if user is Pro , but they will come in much slower pace then duels on high scoring images.

I’m really a newcomer, still, to Pixoto. But I’ve had the thrill of my first “700” score on one of my photos, and I’m hooked, trying to out-do myself. But like you, it seems to take forever to get my 100 duels, and the delayed gratification of getting the awards I’m eagerly awaiting, like the 2018 annual awards in each category and my first badge for 2018, and it seems like it’s never going to happen.

Considering there are *a lot of topics* here that are either dated (no longer relevant) or duplicated, we will also be decommissioning this community and starting a new one. The general plan would be to keep this one open for the remaining of this year to make sure everyone's previous questions are properly addressed,

The other main reason we are starting a new one is that this platform does not give us the ability to address issues as quickly as possible.  Plan on seeing the new community within the next few months.

It is still planned.  Unfortunately, we have a higher priority migration underway (categorized under image submission above).  I placed the prioritization above where that ticket is referred to as "Reporting System Improvements." I believe we can get all of it complete within a 90 day timeframe.

Hi Scott! Thanks for finally taking part in the discussion and giving us a timetable for the Annual Awards 2018. I would really though have appreciated that you directed some answer also to me as you carefully did it with everybody else. Keep in mind that it was me who started this threadI! Frankly I feel excluded and I don't like the feeling.

Sorry to exclude you Mia. Your involvement is definitely appreciated as well ;)

I did reply to the general ticket which was intended for you as well since you created it.

Please note we are working hard and hope to provide long waited changes and insight to our users within the near future.
