Tomorrow, I will be a volunteer photographer for a "Mad Hatter Mardi Gras" fundraiser. I would like to offer photos to the guests for sale on Pixoto, and then give the proceeds of the sale to the charity. Would it suffice to hang a poster in the entrance that works like a photo release for all of the guests and then hand a card to each person that I take photos of, or do I need to have every person sign a photo release?

Hello Monique, if you want to sell images for commercial use as stock you will need to have signed model release for every recognizable person. If you don't have model release you can still sell them but you need to sell them as "Editorial use only".

I hope this helps.

This is very helpful, thanks. I am planning on using the Pixoto platform to offer the photos to the guests. Would they be able to buy them through the site as editorial use only, or would I need to sell them as stock photography?

HI Monique, canvases are different then stock photos. When user buy canvas it will get canvas and not the file, but when user buy image as stock or for editorial use it will get file.

Monique ... I'm just curious -- are you talking about having people purchase the photo to download, or purchase a print of the photo?

I recently purchased $300 worth of my own images as canvas prints. They were professional quality - not Costco quality. I love the way that Pixoto has so many varieties of ways that people can have their images displayed. This is a win-win for the guests attending the event. Of course, to build up my points in my account, I'll need to quickly vote on hundreds of contests, but it should be worth it.

Is there a royalty on editorial photos or is it only on stock photos?
