Hi Jason,

When should one stop "buying image duel votes"??

For images that:
1) didn't get awards
2) over a month old
3) rating too low

Many thanks

Hi Sylvia,

Jason isn't available to answer this right now so I will take a shot.

From our perspective, it is unlikely an image that is paused will ever rise to the top. That's the point of us pausing the image in the first place. We feel it has done as well as it can based on what we know about it and how it has performed against other images.

That said, occasionally our algorithm can make mistakes which is why we allow users to unpause images. This has to be a personal decision on your part.

Thanks!

Experiment I did today based on this post:

#1) This image was at 174.

I did one click of Get More Votes & it's at 243.

#2) This image was paused at 92.

One click of Get More Votes & it's at 149.

Good observations. Yes - ImageScore is biased to increase for the first good many duels. So usually unpausing an image will increase the score (and the fewer duels it has - the more it will increase). Even if an image loses every single duel for the first 6 it's image score will consistently go up (just by less than it would have if it had been winning)

I entered a photo yesterday that went up to 577 and was paused all of the rest of the day. This morning I checked it, it was 571 with the arrow to send it around. I sent it around and it went up to 588, then paused again. It is still paused, but the score is now 566. I do not understand this at all. Here is the link to the photo: http://www.pixoto.com/images-photogra...

Rose - your image wasn't "paused" in the way we use the term (i.e. will not receive any new duels ever). It was just not getting anymore duels. Once you have over 100 duels - new duels will only come sporadically.

Does it mean that if we unpause older images, they're put back in duels???,

Another question (you will laugh!). Can WE pause our images? I ask this because the following pic of my brother was doing good. It was on 588 (or 598 I don't remember) and I thought it will hit 600. But now it's on 566. It's unpaused but I keep loosing points for this this one. This is the pic:

We can't let you do this. It would break the algorithm because new images wouldn't be able to player older ones. That said - the new release we are working on should address a lot of the issues you are seeing.

I'm new to the site and added a photo last night. I couldn't figure out why it was "paused", what does that mean?
