Due to rampant cheating:

http://community.pixoto.com/pixoto/to...
http://community.pixoto.com/pixoto/to...
and other problems:
similar images
wrong category
multiple accounts

there should be an official look out on the leader board beside from the report team and the members who are reporting to maintain the legality and fairness of the competition.
Hope members will support this thread, if you really want a fair and legal competition.

You may not have noticed that Sherry has not been on this board for a couple days and Jason has only been doing minimal response. I would give it a little more time and see how they answer.

I wouldn't be holding my breath for there to be any additional staff employed to "police" the submissions though.

Charlie was requesting community input I think. We always read ideas but don't always respond to them. If an idea gains community momentum then we really focus on it.

Adding a "pixoto police" is something we would consider if the community really feels it will help.

Sorry Jason but I do remember reading somewhere else on the board that Sherry said that volunteers would not be used so my reasoning is that if volunteers would not be used any "official guardian/police" would have to be employed by Pixoto in a formal capacity.

Sherry is right Mark cuz members who are reporting, and contributing some ideas that make pixoto a better community of togs(amateur, beginner, pro) is considered volunteering that's why you're right that pixoto should or must employed an official lookout.

Site with this many members and this volume of images should have better control and faster response to issues - I saw many times image is reported and due to late response it gets award and is moved or deleted after that so some good images that should get award or get better score award are deprived of correct award because of cheaters (and after awards are given there is no correction in standings for removed images) - so fair players are damaged because of cheaters...

95% of the problems i see on Pixoto are simple issues that can be resolved by moderators ( the user community). Maybe Pixoto could offer Pro membership for being a moderator as recompense for their time effort.

Any difficult issues, multiple duplicates, copyright problems could be raised up to a second tier support for further action.

You're right their Bill but moderators or reporters from the community members ar only reporting those who are on top of the leaderboard which is not also fair to anybody.
What i'm suggesting is their should be officials who are monitoring the leaderboard in every category from bottom to top.

I know you're doing your job Sherry but i think we need more look out as the entries increase every minute. You know there are a lot of complain regarding problems about cheating, wrong category, multiple accounts, and images which have gain awards that re-categorized. if we have an official look out of the leaderboard beside from the community report i think this problem will be avoided.

I've only been around for a couple weeks and I'm finding a lot of things that could be better with the way things are. When I first joined I was just interested in the images. Then I got caught up with collecting points and awards, I still am. This system gets people greedy and it looses the fun and appeal.

It's also tiresome trying to police and whine to the moderators.

Anyways... I truly hope things get better.

I have only been here for a couple of months, but it quickly became apparent to me that a lot of the problems could be eliminated if photos somehow had a review before hitting the system -- I see, over and over again, photos with date-stamps and watermarks, and photos that have been obviously submitted into the wrong category (photos of children without adults in the image, for example, submitted into People). Those photographs should never make into ImageDuels.

With the very small number of staff they have they cannot be expected to review every shot. And its going to get worse now b/w and colour same images are allowed....

A large part of the problem could be solved by having consequences for duplicating. As I've suggested many times now- deleting both copies would be very effective- reason being- they are duplicating because the first copy did well- getting caught means they would loose the awards and points the first copy won- its a good deterrent. Everyone gets caught eventually- so it wont take but a few weeks to have all the duplicating stop all by it's self. Simple- fast and effective. Same with submitting in wrong category- delete the image- refund the entry points. They will quickly learn to submit it in the right category. Pixoto shouldn't have to spend so much time moving images! We are adults. We can follow directions. We learn from the consequences to our actions. Actions wont change as long as there are no negative consequences to duplicating. And don't be concerned that you will be deleting a lot of good images- they can re submit them- and they wont be willing to loose more than 1 or 2 either before its not worth it.

You have a very good point there Janna i agree but our problem now is who's going to monitor? That'a why there should be an official guardian.

People make mistakes posting duplicates, I think its fair enough that one is deleted with no further penalty. Except those who continually do it, deliberately do it....and that I think is up to Pixoto to monitor and deal with.

5 global moderators, that are very active on this site could easily deal with the duplicate and mis-categorized images. If a tog feels that their image was unduly deleted or re-categorized then the image could go to all the moderators for a majority verdict.

Any difficult issues, multiple duplicates, copyright problems, account, technical issues could be raised up to Pixoto second tier support for further action.

It seems more important to create complicated algorithms rather than sorting out the problems at grass roots level.

Dora! Well, I do love a good road trip................
:-)

And, seriously, it has not gotten better over the past few months with regards to the issue of images being in the wrong category, the consequences being that all photos are getting inappropriate (and unfair!) duels, so this idea is something that Pixoto should seriously consider.
