Number of votes following un-pause

Is anyone else seeing less than 5 votes following the un-pausing of a picture?

I just un-paused a picture on 30 votes, and received 2 more votes before it was then paused again.

Sorry guys. It's supposed to give you 3 votes - not 5. We're making some really big changes to the unpausing system tomorrow and adding a new feature "DuelBoost":
- Unpauses will now be guaranteed their full 3 duels within 24 hours (right now they can get stuck as unpaused indefinitely)
- DuelBoost will allow users to get 5 additional duels to "stalled" images within 24 hours. Costs 10 credits. Max 2 boosts per day. Lots of complexity with this one to make sure it can't be used to cheat.

It says 5 Jason

If you introduce a new system of 3 votes for 5 credits and 5 votes for 10 credits surely using the 3 vote boost twice is somewhat better value than the 5 vote boost once. I'm sure you posted somewhere that you are better to resubmit than unpause anyway so it seems that the "DuelBoost" may be obsolete before it starts.

Now I know you're going to say that the "DuelBoost", in conjunction with the 2 boosts a day, will give you more votes in any 24 hour period but in truth I'd prefer to have a button that says please pause my picture temporarily during the hours of daylight in a certain part of the world to avoid all of my pictures loosing to out of focus poor quality snapshots from that region.

If you want to combat cheating then my suggestion is to remove the cash prizes. Once money is out of the loop I firmly believe many of the cheats will loose interest.

Take a look at the average salary of a graphic designer or software engineer in a part of the world where a significant number of your members live and compare that to the cash prizes you offer. Now work out what that would make the equivalent cash prize for people say from the USA and tell me that isn't an incentive to cheat.

I know it says five. It's not supposed to. Don't know why it got changed - but we'll have that fixed today.

The thing is DuelBoost can be used on images that are not paused. But you are right - resubmit may be the better option. If we do our jobs correctly then DuelBoost should have very little impact on the final results. The only reason we are building it is because Players WANT more votes for their images and there is no harm in allowing them to get them. Other Players benefit because for every vote a boosted image gets 3 other images get a vote as well.

You may be right about the cash prizes - but I'm OK with people trying to cheat. Finding how they cheat and fixing it is helping to make Pixoto bullet proof. We will eliminate cash prizes at some point but hopefully the financial incentive to doing well on Pixoto is always increasing (i.e. more likely to get hired, more likely to license or sell images, etc).

I think I misread stalled for paused, so I understand the DuelBoost concept now thanks.

I can understand that people trying to cheat gives you an insight into how you can prevent it but I think your rule abiding members would like some feedback as to how you are doing on this front.

So please let us know if our reporting of pictures is working for example.
How many watermarked pictures have been deleted
How many copyright infringements have been found
etc etc etc

You mentioned that abnormal voting practice can be detected and the users votes discounted, how many have you found?

If you don't tell us then we may just assume nothing is changing

Hey Will - We don't track those stats per se but here are some approximates:
- We've removed over 3000 images with watermarks
- We've removed about 6 or 7 accounts for copyright infringement
- We've recategorized about 250 images (about 1 in 3 reports)
- We remove about 1 member per day who have suspicious voting practices

Keep in mind the scores on Pixoto move very fast - and it takes us at least 24 hours but usually longer to complete action on a reported image.

I think the watermarked images are being taken care of, as I do not see many of them and once reported they cannot be seen in duels.

I'm sure your are correct but it would be nice to have some feedback from the admin in order to get a feel for the impact the reporting system is having.

Like Kelli I am also still seeing a fair number of watermarked pictures and some of them in pretty high scoring positions.

Just some clarification. Images are only removed from duels once we review the report. We presume innocent until proven guilty.
