New Release

We have done a few releases over the past few days. Here are a few things that were addressed:

1. We did some significant improvements on the back end to help us better identify user issues and get fixes out quicker.

2. The Facebook and Twitter links in award notification emails have been updated to now share the awards and not just the images. As of August 1st, Facebook no longer allows websites to post on a User's behalf so this now allows you to share a similar message that was being done automatically for you in the past.

3. The award share links on your profile page now also share the award and not just the image.

4. Facebook image upload on the submit was not working and has been fixed.

5. Various stability and performance updates were done behind the scenes to make the site better.

Thanks Scott for the updates and the communication.

BTW on my mobile app the background is now black with purple highlights and gray text. It's kind of hard to read. Was that change part of the upgrade?

There should not have been any visual changes.  Are you talking about the Pixoto iOS app from the App Store?

Scott, thanks for all your efforts to improve Pixoto.

Ten categories still have not gotten annual awards for 2017. You probably already know which ones, but I can save you the trouble if you don't already have the list: Abstract, Animals, Artistic Objects, Babies and Children, Digital Art, Food, Landscapes, Public Holidays, Uncategorized, and Wedding.

Will these be coming soon?

Hi all, accolades (top 20 in category) for 2017 will be assigned after all yearly awards are assigned in all categories. I can confirm that 2017 yearly awards for Transportation and Black and white category have been assigned.

This remains an open issue...

Accolade badges still have not been posted to member profiles for 2017 photographers of the year. I was hopeful when Scott got involved the issue would be resolved but it has not. It is now September 17, 2018 and it is horrifically late for the 2017 accolades.

Exactly when will accolade badges for 2017 photographer of the year be posted to member accounts?

Hello Ron, accolades will be posted when all yearly awards are assigned. I'm sorry but I don't have exact date when that will be. We hope to have them assigned soon.

I was unable to get the schedule I wanted from a team member, so I will just start releasing awards one category at a time per day beginning Thursday with the exception of Wednesdays which are when Weekly Awards run.

Scott, can you explain the logic and reasoning in providing awards/categories one day at a time at this point - nearly ten months too late? I have a hard time understanding the explanations (ahem - excuses) thus far for delays including: the "laptop" dilemma in July, the "Facebook" dilemma in August (after all, there are still awards going for daily, weekly, monthly - why is yearly any different?), the "waiting for a schedule from team member" dilemma in September. Now - just about 10 months late, providing the awards "one category at a time" seems kind of silly and illogical to me. If you really have the data (which I continue to question), why not just simply release it. I have been a huge supporter of Pixoto (both financially and referral wise - really - ask Kelly...she sent me an email a while back indicating her appreciation for my support and membership), and it is frustrating when it feels like I'm being lied to (or strung along).

Scott, please do something to address the extremely slow voting for the daily duels. The problem is too many repetitive community contests. These get priority over the daily duels. That is backwards. Why should contests be closed in just five days when it is taking longer than that for paying members with high ranking images to get their guaranteed 100 duels. This happens even when their images are scoring well. Check out the top tens for this week in animals, one of the largest categories. None of the top images has close to 100 duels even though some were uploaded days ago! It is so frustrating. I try to vote each day to help things along, but I get bored by so many duels for "outdoor photos", "nature photos", and "flowers with bugs" or "flowers with not bugs", etc. My suggestions: 1. A moderator is limited to no more than two contests a time and may not start a new contest until those have completed voting. 2. Cap entries for community contests (those not sponsored by Pixoto) to a maximum of 500 entries. Once 500 entries is reached, the contest should move to the voting stage. 3. Voting for community contests should last for seven days rather than just five.

Those changes will greatly improve the number of votes available for daily duels while not eliminating the community contests that are popular with many users and a source of credits for those moderating them. I think it will restore balance to Pixoto leading to improved satisfaction for all.

More in general: the number of active members is low.
To much contests mean those take votes are withdrawn from regular voting (day&week&month winners and the commercial contests)

Like all Photo sites community contests are used to get more active member and more photos on the site to empower the commercial value (e.g. selling pictures). But all the sites only introduce the communitiy contests after a certain basic flow in the volumes (members and photos).
Can't remember when community contests were introduced, but at that time number of active members (so also number of votes) was much higher.
I think that the huge drop in active member now causes the problems here @ pixoto.

So all suggestions to limit the contests for now (or even stop temporary with the community contests at all) will bring back basic voting levels for regular voting.

Other sites struggle with similar problems from time to time.
Another optios that Ive seen using elsewhere are things like increasing upload credits per picture (so more voting has to be done) and lower the number of credits that you get when winning a contest.
All to make members be voting more actively.

Unfortunately, there *may* have been a platform issue affecting duels since August 18th. There was something that manifested today around 3am that could have been a much broader issue, but it's hard to tell at this point. Let's see how things progress the next few days.

I just did some voting and tallied the types of duels I was getting. Of 103 duels, 75 were for daily duels and only 17 were for contests. So, that seems to be a big improvement. That said, the animal image that I uploaded three hours ago has only had 13 duels. The Nature Up Close image I uploaded two hours ago has only had 8 duels. Maybe we just aren't getting enough people voting.

Sweetnana I agree 100% about the unimaginative contests which i have mentioned several times before, they are attracting thousands of photos which then have to attract voting. There are the same 3 culprits who consistently re-do the exact same contest that just finished which they also keep open for way too long. I recently just started doing a few of my own, to basically add a bit of variety and I know a few others do keep the interest up and will continue to do so but the unimaginative people who do 'two eyes' 'nature' 'outdoor, 'flowers' 'sunsets etc etc etc ... i have no idea what is in this for them?

Janet, since most of "variety" contests dont get more than 300 entries, it will be a kind of a "loss making business".

If say, someone enters 15 images x 20 points then he must win the Contest to get back his 300 credits.

Many people enter contests one-two days before submition ends, because they can see, if there are enouph entries so they get back, whith some luck, a part of the credits they "invested". This only if they have the theoretical chance to win #1. #2 or #3.

I personally think Pixoto has many other considerable troubles that are still not solved, this one is compared, whith the major issues, peanuts and can be easily solved whith rules!
