This means that, if everything went smoothly, we should have the awards of January 23rd, and this for 55 minutes.... Can somebody tell me why they’re not being distributed...?
I have nothing against experiments to try to improve the system, although it would have to work properly.

Hi Gerad, I'm sorry, Scott is missing "next" - it is a typo, we apologize for it.

The correct formulation for monthly awards is:

"5PM GMT (12PM EST) the 3rd Tuesday of the next month"

You can see correct formulation here: https://www.pixoto.com/photography-co...

There is no point in assigning monthly awards while the current month is still open for submissions.

Looking at the top ten daily awards for Animals on January 23rd, only one has shifted positions. I'd say the delay in assigning daily awards seems to be working much better.

Gerard, checking your profile page: https://www.pixoto.com/gchatenet
I can see that you have 2018 badges for the following categories: Animal, Nature up close, Flowers, City, Street & Park, Artistic objects and Building and architecture.
Badges for 2018 were assigned 2 months ago - you can check in this topic: https://getsatisfaction.com/pixoto/to...
where you also replied that you received your 2018 badges.
I hope this time my answer solved your question.

Annual Awards: Schedule Announced Middle of March.
There is already a link published for it somewhere? I am a bit confused with the schedules and links available...(I meant, for the annual awards of 2019, obviously to be published/announced during 2020)

Also, talking about contests and etc.: users are still waiting replies for WEEKS about what happened to this contest> https://www.pixoto.com/contests/portraits-in-the-studio#COMMENTS

Photos were disqualified with a terribly bad excuse, the winner has three similar entries (guidelines on submissions are clear to DON ́T use photos that are similar - Contest Rules:
  • 1. No Watermarks
  •
  • 2. No Very Similar Images
) and they were not disqualified (well, one received Judge Award).

One more thing: after the last judge/moderator reply on Comments on this comments, there were at least 15 other comments from me and other users, all of those asking about these terms ended in agreement that there were several mistakes on DQ some pictures and naturally on Awarding one with similar entries. Then, no more replies from who was apparently taking care of the contest. Sure it was really addressed/replied? Because looks like the users just GAVE UP of waiting and giving some credit for it. I gave a 2nd chance for Pixoto after a lot of disappointments on bugs and terribly bad behavior of some users and moderators and I must confess I feel it was in vain to come back after this contest and these pointed issues [and now seeing that there are even more users pointing that pictures were deleted/removed/DQed for no fair or clear reason again on other situations, while others wins under no review of these mentioned circunstances].

Picture Number 8, for example, doesn ́t fit the contest rule: Posed and looking at the camera. Another one on Top20% also don ́t follow this rule, it was mentioned on contest comments, and moderation did nothing about it too.

See what I mean? The rules are being considerably clear, but much more than one photo classified on the Winners list isn ́t following the rules. So?

Agreed - that contest was poorly handled. I had come back to Pixoto after being gone to try it out again when I saw this contest because I do a lot of studio portrait work. This contest taught me that Pixoto is still more frustrating then fun. It makes me a little sad because years ago it was a great, fun site.

Gabriel - "Picture number 1, number 4 and number 12: exactly the same model, same place, same composition, extremely similar BG." - as much as I can see they are same models but pose/scene is not the same (not to mention that even clothes are different). Regarding #4 and #12 (actually #16) again please check our rules for very similar images - https://www.pixoto.com/photography-co... specifically this part: "...The only exceptions are that you may have a duplicate of a color photo in the black and white category ..." so they don't violate our rules.

Regarding disqualifications - I don't do disqualification - I will ask person that handle contests to recheck questions in comment section for that contest.

I would also like you to stick to the topic - which is in this case Awards. Any different issues should be in its own topic. Thank you for understanding.

Jasenka: thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, as you see AGAIN, I ́m not the only one complaining about this topic [even not being the Awards topic].

I am sorry that apparently you were the only one trying to give consistent replies so you had to read and lose your time doing it on a topic about Annual awards and not about that contest in particular. Let ́s agree that if it was solved and clearly replied as it was supposed to be on that contest, things would be different.

But well, again, as you as a Pixoto official rep insists it ́s not a similar picture, even with other members pointing that any serious platform would review it [the B/W rule is pretty clear, but honestly? Use the "Cloth" argument on a studio portrait that is not even focused on putting the clothes/fashion as main focus? Vague/furtive excuse, no?]

"Sometimes", users in general happens to have a good argument or even the reason. Paul Drajem, Pat Regan, Kelley Hurwitz Ahr and who knows I am not on this list too? :) "Sometimes".

Thanks for your reply, unfortunately and clearly it wasn ́t sufficient as it insists on pointing exactly on what all the users are asking for clarification and reviews. I will use the Exit Door again and stop wasting your time and Pixoto team again. Apparently Pixoto is always right, while other users with 1, 10 or maybe 40 years on the industry don ́t know anything. Feel I ́m clearly not welcome as I pointed things keeps on running on a direction they shouldn ́t be and other users are on the same tune as I am, while the website itself insists to be reluctant no matter what we say :)

Sadly gone again, see you around somewhere. o/ Maybe I try it again after another year or two..

Hi Scott
You were quite strong with your statement "you can expect our commitment to deliver awards on time and to dramatically improve Pixoto in 2020."....
... so what has happened to that commitment? It's mid-april and annual awards were planned for mid-march according to your published schedule?
thx

Here we go again... five months into 2020 and no annual awards for 2019. Can we please get a "real" schedule of when to expect them this year? It would be GREAT if we can beat the abysmal timing of last year.

Hello Judy, as stated in this topic, Yearly awards should be assigned in Spring Season, which last till June 20th, so if nothing changes yearly awards should be assigned by then.

Hi Jasenka,
this reaction (referring to spring and end-of-June) is kind of a poor one I think.
There was a schedule published by Scott and he was 100% certain to fullfill his promise about no delay this time given all technical improvements done....
But unfortunately again... the promise didn't mean a thing.
And the only thing we get (again) is silence.

Of course there is a pandemic, like you referred to in previous reaction a month ago, but if all was so good and so improved as announced this shouldn't have any impact.
And FYI, other PHOTO-sites don't have any delays because of pandemic...

Can you please ask Scott to step in again and ask him to leave a reply over here in this thread?
Given his promise, I think that would be fair to Pixoto members...

I think this appreciation of the notion of Spring is very surprising.
And that said, while the 2019 photo scores are supposed to be known and frozen since the end of December 2019, I don’t understand why it’s so difficult to process the awards as early as February, as for the monthly awards which are treated well from the end of the second week of the following month.
I agree with Ad when he says that pendémie is not a good excuse, and that other photo sites don’t have that kind of problem.
I have to say I’m a little tired of seeing answers from Jasenka, like, "we are sorry for the delay, as soon as we know ..."
blah, blah, blah!!!!!!!
Scott, please, give us a firm and definitive answer, that’s the least you can do, based on the broken promises you made to us.

Unfortunately, this is leading to people quitting Pixoto--a site I have loved for years.  IF the awards were made earlier, I think there would be more enthusiasm.  I am still holding on, but it is getting hard to remain excited.

Hi Karen. This is the situation for years already. Most good photographers left and number of members dropped to a level below the numbers at startup time.
There were some small revivals (last one was the technical upgrade by Scott end of last year) but in general no real development takes place (and I'm not referring to technical updates, but to building the platform and attracting members). I assume that for the founder (Jason Kiefer) it's juist a cashcow as he has to earn some money due to the larger initial (external) investments.
Scott tried to take over I think (not sure about that) but that didn't settle I assume, as besides the technical upgrade I didn;t see any further involvement.
Besides the business part, the complete lack of interest of the owners, the complete lack of regular involvement in platform and complete lack of functional steps forward are main reasons for people to leave.
I said it before, but (despite denial by Pixoto) given the many times feedback is given, the lack of following up that feedback and the lack of involvment of management/owners the site is somewhere near end-of-life unfortunately.
Besides that, I always feel sorry for Jasenka, who is putting good effort in this community but seems to be alone in the Pixoto desert...

FYI:
Less than 750 active members this year...
(only 10-20 real active ones and 20-50 moderate active ones....)
And with active I mean members posting photos.

Hello Everyone, Here is an update:

We finished migrating the entire award system to our v3 system 2 weeks ago. We wanted to make sure the system was reliable before we started sending awards. Annual awards will be starting end of next week.

Hi Scot,

given your firm
"You can expect our commitment to deliver awards on time"
in the announcement you did above, the migration to v3 system was poorly timed. Now it impacted the users way to much, which really could have been avoided. There is really no serious photo-site where upgrades have impact like here at pixoto.

Besides timing, you better inform users (e.g. through this community or through mails or through an announcement on the site) that some maintenance is going on.We've discussed that before...
And at least inform your community moderator Jasenka!
This avoid poor excuses like "We are sorry for the delay, as soon as we know the schedule for 2019 yearly awards we will post it. With whole world on hold because of pandemic, please bear with us".
Jasenka now simply didn't know at all what was going on.

But, great to get een update from your side Scott en good to hear things are back on track. Keep it going that way!

Regards
Ad

What is unfortunate is that it was done to the detriment of what has been working properly for ages, namely the quoditian awards, which have not worked for two days. This is all becoming painful.

We did a release to prep for the Awards last weekend. Unfortunately, there were some issues with that release which were fixed last Tuesday.

We are in the middle of a major server platform upgrade which is expected to be finished today or tomorrow. Then we need to wait 24-48 hours for things to stabilize. At that point we will start ramping up the annual awards starting with smaller categories and ending with larger ones.

I will update you when the platform upgrade is complete and then update you again once the awards process starts.

We just sent out our first batch of Annual Awards (Typography). As mentioned in a reply above, we plan on starting with smaller categories and ramping up to larger categories.

The reason for this is we have made a lot of major changes recently and we want to make sure everything is running smoothly by the time we get to the large categories.

The plan is to assign a new category every day excluding days that are already scheduled for weekly and monthly awards.

We will not be providing a schedule at this time as we may decide to send a few larger categories earlier and out of order, but we will announce categories as they are assigned.
