I know it is not against the rules of Pixoto to enter your own pics into a contest... But is it ethical?

Hello Samuel, if moderator didn't limit number of entries (and if moderator chose Pixoto voters will decide winners) moderator (as well as any other user) can enter as much images as he/she likes.

Is your question here (ethical) about number of images submitted by moderator, or point that moderator did submit image to his own contest?

Would it be different if another user submitted 30 images to this contest?

Since moderator only set up contest and doesn't influence in any way in voting (and thus selecting winners), moderator is in this case just another user submitting images to contest.

Please let me know if this doesn't help.

Dear Jasenka,
I counted in the end, there were 59 pics entered by the moderator. As nobody else submitted as much images, I think this practice skewed the results.
Best regards
Sam

Samuel, if 59 images he submitted were not of good quality, then he wouldn't get any award. As said before, it was Pixoto users who determined who the winners will be. Out of 398 images submitted to that contest if there were better images I'm sure Pixoto users would vote for them, and thus making other user(s) awards winners too.

Its not against the rules, but that doesn't make it right. He set up a specific challenge on a subject where he had a lot of photos and entered 59. It was fairly obvious that he was going to get a lot of the awards.

I think all competitions should limit the amount of entries, I was going to enter a contest yesterday until I saw one person had over 170 entries, smacks of desperation to me frankly

I could not agree more. It's ridiculous to allow unlimited entries. It creates a boring situation.

Probably the moderator should restrain from participating or his/her contribution be limited to 5 pics while the participants to 10-15 pics. Anybody should be able to select the best 10/15 of pictures to a competition.
I also would like to modify the voting process. Voters with higher rating should have a higher value in determining the final score of a pic.

There needs to be a LIMIT on number of entries to one contest. It's ludicrous to have otherwise. Bottom line is that it is NOT INTERESTING and creates eye-rolling by the general community.

I would think limiting on number of entries is a good idea. I'm new to this site, and I've already decided to stay away from contests that have HUGE numbers of entries. Not sure if that's a good idea or not. Comments?

If you want to see you images duelling again after the daily/weekly awards then you need to enter the contests, at the end of the day it is only fun.

I'm not sure what you mean here. I do a lot of dueling but very little in contests. How does one affect the other?

Hello Barbara, category duels and contest duels are completely separated one from another and one doesn't influence at all on the other.

I hope this helps.
