Money Isn't Everything!

Whoever suggested taking away the monetary aspects of this site, I totally agree. No longer would you have togs submitting 20-25 images a day, mostly similar in nature, and no longer would those peeps who feel the need to try to cheat the system for $20 or $50 be inspired to do so.

There are some incredible togs on this site who play fair and just want to display their genius behind the camera. There are thousands more who yearn for recognition but are overwhelmed by the onslaught of images entered per day. If there were clear cut rules concerning number of entries per day I think Pixoto could rise to the level to which I'm sure they aspire. Follow the lead of sites like Viewbug, who promenently display featured weekly photos to the advantage of togs that populate their site and make that a goal to be included in that inner circle.

The downside is that Pixoto will definitely see a drop in membership, but those who stay will be the cream of the crop, true photgraphers in every sense of the word, increase their portfolios and recognition, and for Pixoto, you will finally be considered a true and worthy photo site where peeps come to see the best of the best, to buy canvases, to buy stock photos, and all that you offer as a site that has uniquely taken the high road to the craft we love.

I totally agree with everything you say John, but could i go one step further,

I suggest they take away the ridiculous points awarded to 10 & 20% awards, make them badge only and increase the award points for top 10% and 5% places possibly increase the top 10 to top 20 ?

How many times have you been in the top 10 only to drop to 11 or 12 at the last minute and see the award drop by 100s of points, or received an email stating "You’ve racked up a whopping 17 points! " for a 20% place

It should be a site that awards great images with worthwhile points

RaIph, I like your idea of making top 10% and 20% badge awards only without the useless amount of points awarded, and extending the top 10 to top 20 for awards and points. For myself I stick mainly to the Animal category because it happens to be what I'm into at the moment, and don't know much about the other categories, except what I read here in the community forum. What I do see lately in the Animal category is one person winning 5 and 6 places of the top 10, and one day counted 23 entries on the same day. Given the fact that he is an excellent professional photographer, it leaves little room for others to get much recognition. Extending the awards to top 20, as Ralph suggests, would give many togs some much needed encouragement to enter if they feel they have a better chance to get an award along with more realistic points.

ABSOLUTELY spot on John!! Standing and applauding.

Money awards must be taken away - they may have been a useful way of initially bringing folks to Pixoto, but they clearly are causing most of the grief now - and for the past year.

FYI - Some of the players who have also commented in other threads here

In animals for yesterday 5 of the top 10 are all from 1 tog,! i don't actually have a problem with that but 3 of them have all gained top 10 places already and one or more at 1st place ? ! that's why we need a rule like the one suggested !

It's just my opinion but it seems pointless entering an image if its already won at that level ! what have you got to gain ?

I totally agree with restricting the number of entries allowed each day ,and I've seen many threads saying the same thing.....

I don't totally agree with restricting the number of entries But i would like to see tighter restrictions on re entry of top 10 winning entries.

If you have a top place especially a 1st place what is the point of re-entering you are not going to get better are you ? so the only reason to enter is to stop someone else winning !

I would also like to see an area where togs can ask questions and get answers to better there own images, the more great images, the better the site, surly !!

The whole point system is faulty tho- because it will always place those who are here longer at the top- and any new member- no matter how good they are- will never be able to catch up. The points need to be averaged to fall within a set range of say 1-1,000 The best members should rank 995- leaving the last 5 points as wiggle room in case way better photographers show up.

Points alone should not dictate rank- its how the points were earned. Currently - photographers are not rewarded for both quality and quantity- thats why duplicates are submitted- to add more points.

Grade work like you grade people in school. GPA grade point average. same system with a bigger scale (4.0 vs 1000)

Otherwise good photographers that join now will never get to sell their work- and you loose potential sales!

Just look at those members who joined 3 years ago- their points are in the millions. And where are the rest of their photos? there are only a few visible- how do you know if they are duplicating or not? Why did they get to take down images and keep the awards and points?
