Low participation with Pure Photos flag.

So far only 2.5% of images are being flagged as Pure when submitted. However from looking at the leaderboard it looks like the majority of images should be flagged as Pure. Thus the Pure Photo awards would be fairly meaningless because we would not have high enough participation. It's making us question this strategy because it just doesn't seem to be that important to people. Feedback appreciated...

Yes Kris, all you need to do is just delete the image and submit it again then check as pure, but if this image has won award no chance because if you do, award will be lost, hope this help. have a nice day to you :)

If you click on the picture and then click edit there is a box on the left that says pure and just check and then click save. This puts a flag on your picture and then click backspace. You will go back to where you were....Y-von

Hi Jbern.
Thanks you for your help. Very much appreciated.
I am only resubmitting those that have no awards or those that have a 20% award, for now. I treasure my daily awards too much. :)
Kind Regards. :)

I would say that most photos submitted are pure. Maybe "pure" should be the default and if they are hdr or such then they need to click a tab stating this.

Jason...would you consider a RAW image that was cropped, had its white balance changed and auto-toned in Lightroom "pure" or minimally processed?? This to me is minimal or pure...but, it may be far from that for someone else.

I'd like to know your thoughts on this. Really enjoying the site so far!

I just tried uploading a new photo using the pure tag but it still did not have the pure icon. I tried one earlier but had to manually add the tag. :(

I just found out about pure tags by reading this forum. I think Pixoto needs a better way to contact folks to discuss pure tags. I did finally read a blurb in an email about it as well yesterday, but nothing really fully explaining it. Better marketing of new tools please. I think the pure tag is excellent and went ahead and retagged some of my pure photos.

I just checked my photos... and almost all of them lost their Pure tag somehow. The most recent batch of photos I added were added Sunday, after Jason said this issue should be fixed.

I manually corrected my most recent ones... but doing so was rather annoying.

I've had a bit of a revelation in the past day or so; I've effectively come full circle now, from someone who just pointed and shot, to someone who then learned how to shoot fully manual, to someone who has now realised that my D90 effectively does everything I might want to do, but quicker, so that I can concentrate on just taking pictures.

What's more, with the in-camera settings, I have now found that there is not much I can gain from shooting in RAW than what I can get from setting certain presets and then shooting in basic.

This now changes my outlook on what is pure and what is not, however still glad to see that setting auto tone and white balance is still considered Pure, as even matrix metering with Nikon can wrongly over-expose the subject.

I have shots of Fireworks I took the other night. I listed them as pure because I only cropped them and added some contrast to them. I hope they are considered as pure. I do agree I think people are getting confused about this so they do not put them as pure.

I post probably more than 90% of my pics as "pure". The most any of these have had done to them, if anything at all, is a bit of in camera cropping. I have been using the "pure" tag on these since I became aware of it and so far they have all stuck. Maybe making the "pure" selection as part of the Catergory, Subcatergory choice so that you can't post until you have made that selection would mean a greater percentage of "pure" pics being displayed.

There needs to be a pure CATEGORY, or at least a "not totally photoshopped to the point of national geographic cover." You guys REALLY need to create a category whose pictures are individually admitted by a small group of your staff. There are way too many Vanity Fair covers.

I totally agree. It is hard to get badges whith all the photoshopped pictures getting all the points.I have a lot of unique shots that only get 3 or 4 hundred points.

I am new here and this is STILL a problem...what are you to do if all you can afford is a P&S...I KNOW most of these pictures did NOT upload straight of their cameras...There is no way to compete again that..

Is there any possibility that the program recognize pure or RAW images during submitting and automatically mark them as such?

And when will the note about special awards for Pure photos become true?

Hello Babica, I will try to get an answer to your first question, I do not know the answer.

This thread is over a year old, From what I understand, it was decided after the initiation of the Pure tags not to go forward with the special awards for Pure images because participation is very low.

Dear Sherry, if Pixoto decided not to go forward with the special awards for Pure images, it will be nice to change the note that stands inside Submitting form.
Maybe it is not so low participation of Pure photos but less customers find out important to sign it.

It would be nice for totally pure picture to be recognized, OR maybe a category for P&S ...as it is VERY hard to compete against $400-$600 cameras that have specialized lenses costing just as much...

Maybe someone should go and update the category description page

http://blog.pixoto.com/category-descr...

Photography Photoshop/Post Processing Rules

In an effort to find the best, and most striking imagery, extensive use of Photoshop or other post processing techniques is allowed in all categories. However images that look like “digital art” rather than photography should be categorized as such.

If your image was minimally processed after capture you can mark your photo as a “Pure Photo” during submission. Leaderboards will have a “Show Pure Photos Only” filter and special awards and points will be awarded in addition to our standard awards

Linda since the categories are arranged by subject, there is not. It would dilute the categories even more, meaning none of the categories would ever take a cash prize because half the community would be participating in the Pure categories and the other half in non - Pure.
