Leverage photos as stock photography!

Jason - I'd love to be able to pay to reuse some of these photos for advertising as stock photography. Can you enable a download of a full res image and hook up some sort of royalty payment system? I know that's a big deal for infrastructure, but would really extend the scope of the site. Pixoto takes a cut of the transaction and the photographer makes some $$. The higher rated the photo the more expensive. - Tom K

Hey Tom,

I love this idea! Stock is something we've talked about, but the concept of the highest rated images costing the most is great!

Thanks for sharing and please keep the ideas flowing.

NONE of the images submitted to Pixoto become our property. They remain the property of the Player and rightful owner. When we roll out our stock functionality, it will be an opt-in program and you don't have to participate if you don't want to.

:) Thanks Justin! and kudos for the continued success of the site. will the stock program allow for opting in for some photos and not for others?

We have not determined exactly how Pixoto Stock will work, but I would imagine it will be on an image by image basis.

Justin, please keep us Pixotics "in the loop".

I'm sure that a quick survey (maybe sent out ia email or visible on the home screen as a floating tab on the right hand side!) would establish the level of support from your players.

Thanks!

Hi Vesna,

We do not allow users to download your work and use it without your permission. The suggestion was that we build a system that allows players to offer their work as licensed stock images. This would be a service that allows the player to earn money from their work and would never be mandatory. You could choose to participate if you want.

At this point, we are only considering this idea.

As for cheaters, please send me an email if you feel anyone is cheating on Pixoto. We take that very seriously!

Since Vesna feels so strongly about NOT having their photos used...maybe you can add an accept or decline to sell 'photo rights' question so that people like me, who would be flattered if someone wanted to purchase my work, would have that option. Just a suggestion =)

I understand Vesna's concern, but putting your best photos on the Internet and expecting that no one will steal them is not realistic. It's important to have the highest level of protection, but someone will find a way, regardless.

That being said, if you offer that high level of protection, I think the ability to buy images will give some visitors a chance to download the image legally without stealing it.

I sure don't mind if someone wants to pay for my photos. As Tom said, its probably quite a bit of work for the owners of pixoto. I guess each player who opts for this feature should have his "account" where all his proceeds from weekly cash prizes (if any) and money from stock photography purchases would go, and would be paid out after certain minimum amount is reached (e.g $100). Great idea, and hopefully it will be implemented one day.

We are definitely talking about doing this and judging from the overwhelming response and votes on this idea... I feel pretty confident we will get to adding these features in the not so distant future.

I too like the idea of making images available for download for a fee. Alternatively, you could just add a "contact author for High Res Image purchase" button if you don't want to get muddled with programming the transaction capability into this site.

I also like the idea. There is merit to Marianna's suggestion about contacting the player for the high res image. I'm sure I'm not alone in this, but the images I've put up at pixoto are sized with resolution for web and wouldn't count as high res. Most likely wouldn't print with that great a quality...............

Great Idea Marianna! Ist saves expensive administration system for pixoto and therefore the photographer can get a better price!

I think it would be important to allow individuals to selectively opt in or out on a photo by photo basis. Especially for things like wedding photography where it may be appropriate to share images for review and self promotion but it would be unorthodox to try to sell these as stock images.

I agree with Victor. This should be an opt in thing for the photographer. If every image was allowed to be sold, I would remove all my images from the site as I do not want to support selling images as stock. The stock industry has destroyed a lot of photographers ability to make money and I do not want to support it.

i think this is the best idea that someone has posted till date !
and i also completely agree with lady ashly

also, with selling our images on this website would mean, we get greater exposure and revenue and it is also a revenue model for pixoto.com !

1 suggestion would be.. i don't mind if u don't go ahead with other ideas, but this idea has to work out and proper execution must be taken ! hats off !

As you probably already no, if a photograph contains a person or part of a person, or private property, it is in the interest of the photographer to get signed releases. Unless it is to be used for editorial use, it can be a bit of a minefield.

Does anyone have an idea on a time frame for this? Or are we just still pretty much talking dreaming about it in the far off stage at this point? :)

Respectfully,
Liz

Just having a direct link to the photographers website is the best way to sell photos. That way, if you don't want to sell your work, just don't make it available on your personal website. If someone likes your work and wants to purchase it, going to your website is a simple thing to do.
