Just wondering why I have had no votes for awhile. Not many of my photos have gotten past 40-50 votes

It just seems like my pictures don't get enough votes to get to an award, when at first they have a good enough winning streak that they should.  It seems voting stops well before times up to get the award.

Hi Chad,

Everything looks good. Here is a summary of your images:

#6 id:5185614197686272 votes:43 last vote:Wed Oct 23 00:54:54 UTC 2019 next vote: ~ 9.8 hours
#7 id:5767617532002304 votes:43 last vote:Tue Oct 22 20:14:58 UTC 2019 next vote: ~ 5.1 hours
#8 id:5957186013495296 votes:42 last vote:Tue Oct 22 15:46:58 UTC 2019 next vote: ~ 0.7 hours

The rate at which an image receives is based on numerous criteria, but mostly on how well it performs. As a PRO user, you are guaranteed 100 votes per image, but images could slow to 1 vote per 12-37 hours as they reach the 40-50 vote mark. This ensures the image continues to rank appropriately in the monthly time period.

That is definitely way more slow than in past years.  I went away for awhile and it doesn't seem to be the same as it was before.

Hi Chad,

We appreciate the feedback.  There are 2 explanations for this.

1. We recently completely overhauled the underlying system.   A complete rewrite. This new system has been working great and is going to allow us to shortly introduce some anticipated new features.  It is much faster and it better enforces that you don't see the same image twice while voting.  When we switched to the new system, we encountered an error with our caching system and this caused a disaster where we had to revert a few hundred thousand votes.  We could have ignored this and just let things eventually work out (which would have happened over time), but we care about the integrity of our system so we chose to fess up painfully revert all these votes.  It took some time catching up and you will see speed improvements over time.  Contests were backed up until yesterday and those have now all been caught up.
You can read more about that here:

2. We tweaked the algorithm a bit to better distribute PRO votes.  Previously there was a bias to newer PRO images vs older PRO images which in my opinion didn't make a lot of sense because you will find your images score better over time.   You don't want to get all your votes from the same focus group/region/time zone.  You also want to appropriately distribute the votes within time periods.

When I gave you those approximate time periods, they were worse case scenarios.  You will find the votes actually come in sooner than the estimates and in some cases *a lot* sooner.

Best,

Scott

Scott, I have several images from as far back as September 18th that still don't have 100 votes. Most have image scores above 600, but the votes are still practically at a standstill for these images. I know that you commented somewhere about finding a few thousand images that were stalled. It doesn't seem that has been fixed yet. My images have gotten a few votes over the past couple of days, but have a long way to go.
