Jason, is a computer now selecting the "voter checks"?

Jason, the problem isn't the wording of the message -- the problem is that the images in the duels are not so wildly different that the choice is obvious.

I vote a lot and I had never run into this message until yesterday afternoon, right after the new update of the site took effect. Suddenly, after just sitting down to vote for a bit, my voting was suspended and it seems there was a flurry of other suspensions. Comments had been made elsewhere, I think by you, in another thread, that those who had never seen the message over the past couple of weeks must have been voting for the "right" images. Well, my voting preferences have not changed and yet, yesterday, suddenly I'm one of the bad voters?

I do not believe that these pairings are being selected by a real person. I suspect that you now have a computer doing the selections based solely on image scores. If that is true, that's a HUGE mistake.

If you go to the Leaderboards and scroll down to the images with scores in the 300s and 400s, I guarantee that people will see images they like. The scores of photos do not necessarily reflect that one is enormously better than the other, high scores are often achieved by when a photo is posted and whether that person's friends are all online too, waiting to vote. A low score does not reflect a bad image, it often just reflects that you picked the wrong day or time of day to submit it. I have photos that have won awards that tanked the first few times I've submitted them.

If you decide to keep this voting quality check, you should NOT use images on this site, or at least not current images that are still active in the duels. Have your staff take some over-exposed, slightly out-of-focus photos and use those as the "bad" images and for the "good" photos, either get yourself some high-quality images from Shutterstock or just use some winning Pixoto photos from a couple of years ago that are no longer duelling.

I know I won't be voting again until this gets cleared up and, since I'm getting low on credits, I guess I won't be uploading photos either. I know today is the Super Bowl -- I'm cheering for Denver too -- but I certainly hope this situation gets cleared up soon.

The images in the duels should have a large difference in quality and composition which should be selected by the Pixoto staff so that a falsely inflated score image does not come in duel with a poor quality image as a quality check for voters.

These pairs can be changed every week or day whichever is more feasible, so that members do not get used to the pairs. The message can popup as a "Hey, wake up" if a user is voting randomly and for repeat offenders just do not count their votes. Banning people from voting would just cause chaos. If you find that someone is purposely skewing the leaderboard (through your secret quality check) then give them a warning in the mail with the details of how they've voted and later suspend them for a period of time. Just my opinion.

Lenore - first - you shouldn't be getting false pairs anymore.

Second - after reading all of the complaints I have decided that we are going to
1) remove the warning text
2) increase how different the images are

I think this will alleviate 99% of the concerns but will still allow us to gain benefits from this very effective system.

Jason, thank you for your reply. I appreciate your attention to this and suspect it's been a hair-pulling time for you -- there are a lot of honest voters who have been affected by this and are publicly upset that their integrity was questioned. It hasn't been pleasant for so many of us over the last 24 hours or so. I'm very glad to read that you are going to alter the way you are putting this system into play.

And I definitely wish you great success with catching the dishonest voters!

Jason .... 10:48 pm here on the east coast. I just tried to do some voting -- first time since yesterday. After a few duels, I got a "whoa" on my vote in a Typography duel (forgot to grab a screenshot but the image on the left was of a banana and the image on the right was of some letters ... I clicked on the letters and got the "whoa").

:-(

I think the new system would be effective after 24 hrs as Jason mentioned in another thread.

If your voting gets suspended then you can write to them and your voting privileges would be reinstated. :)

It happened again to me too. I had to chose between a simple b&w image I liked and another with fake colours and special effects I didn't like. I voted for the b&w and got the same msg, my vote didn't agree with the majority. Mine wasn't a random voting, I just chose the photo I liked better.

Still got the message with very careful voting...I'm unhappy. I still think the one I chose is the best..I'm afraid to vote.

Lenore, I'm with you on this whole thing. I ALWAYS take voting very seriously but in fact, probably do vote quickly. However, sometimes I get stuck on a duel and have to give it a lot of thought. I always thought that voting was for what YOU PERSONALLY thought was BEST!!! Not what the other voters think. There can be so many reasons to choose one photo over another. The clear photo is not always the winner in my book.

Anyway, I'm banned from voting right now for the 2nd time in one day. I won't be boosting my images or entering any additional pictures or challenges as I don't have the credits. So disappointed with this problem. Never had any problems up till now and I've been here since early Dec 2013.

Hoping to hear good news here.
