Not doing it here to embarrass you but you have put a pic of a butterfly in the Nature Up Close. It actually belongs in Animals - Insects and Spiders.

http://www.pixoto.com/images-photogra...

I have gone through and reported all the wrongly categorized pics, hopefully they will be actioned before awards are given.

Mark,

forgive me, but the point of the photo was not to show the beauty of the butterfly, but the surprise seeing butterfly in the middle of winter-time in the wood, and it is written as a title of photo.

So I do not agree that it belongs in Animals!

The focus of the pic is the butterfly. Anyone looking at it will say it's a pic of a butterfly.

Emotive feelings like surprise unfortunately aren't conveyed through a visual medium.

The title of the pic doesn't make the pic one category or another, it's what someone sees when they look at it.

After all, if my lonely winter-butterfly can not be in Nature Up Close, I would like Mark Zouroudis to explain me following:
http://www.pixoto.com/images-photogra..., http://www.pixoto.com/images-photogra..., http://www.pixoto.com/images-photogra..., http://www.pixoto.com/images-photogra..., http://www.pixoto.com/images-photogra..., http://www.pixoto.com/images-photogra..., http://www.pixoto.com/images-photogra... and other very nice photos placed in Nature Up Close, in subcategory Other Natural Objects.

Thanks!

Sea shells and snail shells are ok as long as there is no living animal in them/visible. The others butterfly/moth and fly are not supposed to be there and I hope you have reported them. I have reported them also.

Mark, is this your vision or is it the Pixoto's rule?

As I can see, in category description says:

"Nature Up Close – Photos of plants, trees and other natural objects.
Waterdrops on natural object or plant parts also belong here if the subject is waterdrop rather then object it is on.

Don’t put landscapes or flowers here! If it’s not a close up chances are it belongs in landscapes.

Subcategories: Mushrooms & Fungi, Trees & Bushes, Sand, Rock & Stone, Water, Leaves & Grasses, Gardens & Produce, Webs, Hives & Nests, Other plants, Other natural objects, Natural Waterdrops"

This has come up before on this board and if I had time I would go back and find it and provide the link. It is what Pixoto determined re shells etc.

When Jasenka or Jason come on they can tell you.

Dear Mark,

I am not so sure that Jason will say as you wish.

If you read all topics, you will find out that Pixoto sometimes tolerate combination of living creatures in Nature Up Close. It was not so long ago a discussion about it and result was that the photo was finally turned back into Nature Up Close. So chill up a little. :)

Babica, Chill??????

I am sorry that your pic was wrongly put in the wrong category by you.

The one your talking about was one of Darrell's. The comparison is not a close one. The butterfly in your pic "was" the pic.

I didn't reclassify your pic. If you think Pixoto have made a mistake your gripe is with them.

The empty shells do belong in Nature Up Close. From memory the exception to the rule is that if they where not in their natural habitat e.g. in a studio the could also go in Artistic Objects - Still Life.

Yes.

Babica, it's not that complicated.

If it's an animal, that includes insects and molluscs it goes in Animals.

If it's a shell and it's found in it's natural habitat it goes in Nature Up Close - Other.

If you take that shell inside, say to a studio setting and photograph it it can go in Artistic Objects - Still Life.

Hi Babica, Mark is right. All insects when they are clearly subject in the photo should go to Animal/Insect category (like yours is).
Shells in natural environment are to go in Nature up close/Other natural objects, and ones photographed in studio go in Objects category.
I see report team has already recategorized what is needed from this report.
Hope this helps.
