Isn't the life/death of an image determined in the first few hours?

Do I understand correctly that the system determines how many duels an image will have based upon how it performs in the first few hours; the first [?] 20-30 duels?

Depending upon where you are located and the time of day you post, isn't the voting going to be impacted?

I am guessing that the most members are from the USA; therefore, unless you post during the USA daytime hours you will have a much smaller pool to vote on your image. Correct?

I have sometimes uploaded an image that has lost the first 5 duels and bombed, only to resubmit and win the next 5 duels. Many people still vote carelessly - I guess it depends what image your pic gets drawn against, and who is voting at that time.....Not sure the the USA has the bulk of it, but you can get the stats on the Leaderboard by country of who's submitted what and when.

Hello Jay, please see this link: http://www.pixoto.com/about

Specifically this part:

"My photo is not paused but isn't getting any more duels. Why?

The ultimate number of votes that an image gets is dependent on its early dueling history. The more early wins an image has the higher its ImageScore will go and the more duels it will ultimately receive. The highest rated unpaused images on the site will end up with four times (or more) duels than the lowest. After the first 50 duels or so the change in ImageScore with each additional duel slows down. Essentially the first 50 or so duels define the approximate area of the leaderboard an image should be and the remaining duels refine that placement. We are primarily focused on refining the scores of the top image – which is the reason for the disproportionate number of duels to those types of images."

I hope this helps.

At the end of the day the voting is a joke and the scores mean absolutely nothing, it does not in any way determine which is the best picture of the day, week, month or year. People get given the best photographer award and frankly it's shameful. Cheats win hands down and good honest photography doesn't. Add to that the fact that a voting system gives points to losing images is quite frankly mind blowing. It is a unique voting system and I hope for the sake of fair play that no other site copies it.

I'm not interested in winning insignificant little badges, when I first started I was but not any more, the only thing I am interested in is selling my images and I don't need a badge to do that.

To sell my images the same as anyone else. That doesn't mean I have to agree with stupid way the voting is done, the same as many other honest contributors don't.
