Novices, Instagram, & Mobile Phone images are of such dismal quality it's dreadfully discouraging to dual such a HUGE number of pitifully bad quality images. I'm about to throw in the towel because I'm dueling, skipping terrible shots half the time only to keep the game alive. NOTE. I'm not alone. This is is an epidemic problem. If you want quality images here then you should not supersaturate the site with horribly poor quality shots.

Please re-consider your Instagram and Novices categories.

All I'm saying that there is suddenly a disproportional amount of very poor quality mobile phone and instagram images. These 2 categories have super saturated the site.

Instagram added over 10,000,000 new users since Facebook bought them out and there is an Android app for it as well. I have a feeling the market will be flooded for a while with snapshots.

Marianna. I understand what you are saying. There are some really poor instagram shots - there are really poor shots in every category - but as a percentage they are probably higher in instagram. I think because of the challenge they were running pretty high last week (about 12% of submitted images). This week it's down to about 7%. They do get paused faster and are less likely to get unpaused than other shots so as a percentage of imageduels they are closer to 5%. So this is a long way of saying that about 1 in 20 imageduels are instagram recently - so you may have just have hit at a time when we had an especially high concentration of uploads.

We can add the ability to opt out of certain categories in ImageDuel (i.e. don't show duels from these three categories). Would this ease your concern?

Many of us would certainly opt out of certain categories , Mobile/ Instagram would certainly be one of them. Then who would be voting for these categories? eg : if 70 percent of users opt out how will that category get votes. They will automatically grade low in the leaderboard. Soon people will stop uploading in that category . Just a thought. ..

I don't think that would be a problem. Certain categories may get more votes - some less but realistically I don't think the majority of people would opt out of any particular category. If they did - then we would change the way credits were allocated so that we could balance them out. But either way - it's manageable.

Adding the ability to opt out of certain categories in ImageDuel would be the Perfect solution Jason! Yes.

How about having 2 separate sections. One for pros that have received a minimum number of awards. And the other for novices. All users start out as a novice. Once a novice achieves a certain status they can then start to enter photos in the pro section.

Instagram photos should be optionally submitted not just automatically submitted that would cut down on accidental submissions.

opt out of certain categories in image duel is a great idea. I can vote on other mobile photos except on instagram, as some instagram photos are obviously not taken from a mobile camera phone. I was also a novice but honesty I am sometimes tired of voting a bad image against another bad image, so most of the time I just skip the vote.

Jason, I agree that all catagories do have poor shots now and then. I think most of the Novice shots are pretty nice and show real talent. But the Instagrams really take up too much time and space during image duels for the "art" they represent. Maybe your statistics say otherwise but this afternoon it seemed like 1/3 of the duels I watched were Instagrams.

There are some Instagrams that show someone has given some thought to the picture and has created a work of art. However, an out of focus picture of your girl friend hanging out of her bra in the backseat of your car does not have a place on this site if you are trying to establish quality.

Opting out of catagories may help with poor image duels but it does not help the overall image of your site. If you are still planning to expand into stock or other areas, you need quality images not just for artwork to display but also for the prestige of the site as a whole.

I am proud of my work and I am proud to enter image duels and I am proud to occassionally win an award. I would like to stay proud of being a member of Pixoto and feel that my friends will have a rewarding experience when I refer them to it. Let "junk" find its own site.

Excellently put Joseph. I totally agree with your observation and hope that Pixoto will find a solution to this annoying problem and their declining image.

I totally agree that there is some awful garbage being submitted through Instagram but you can't write off all mobile phone photography because of it. Just take a look at the these galleries. All of these people take the majority of their photos using mobile phones. A lot of their work is far superior to a lot of 'legitimate' photography. These 4 photographers prove that it's not the camera that makes the shot. it is the person behind the camera.

OMG- I just checked out his site- Hit "leading" and all the dozens of duplicates line right up. His boats and scenic lake shots are really about only 5 photos- cropped to the left, right, flipped. And if he has 550 photos- where are the rest? he could be duplicating from earlier photos and we cant even see them.

Why are guys like this allowed to follow a different set of rules?

I fell off my seat. 300mm lens attached on a mobile phone camera? Im not sure pefectly though how it worked for him but I have second thoughts of his images. Once I caught him cheating and I reported it since then I believed his other images are not taken by a mobile phone

this tog too caught him many times mixing his mobile photos and DSLR ones

I just had a look at this guys gallery. A lot of the pics there could not have been taken with a mobile phone. Well done on finding all these guys.

this tog did it again. I reported one his pix before and it was removed. This gives me a solid reason to doubt him again with this one. this time he made sure that the smoke would be different. he has a lot of this shots in his profile.

this iphone pix is very questionable
it's easy to filter this photo to make it a mobile phone photo and at the exif of the photo it filtered to remains intact.

Please Help! I closed my instagram account due to some confusion over a new privacy policy they have, after reading more about it I decided things were safe and so I opened up a new account, now I can't remove the old account linked to pixoto to replace it with my new account so I can upload my instagram photos to my pixoto account!
