are DSLR photos edited in instagram allowed to be submitted in mobile photo category? This has been the case recently. mobile photography purist are hurting. unfortunately instagram apps deletes exif so how would we know? I thought this category is under mobile photo? I'm confused.

Since DSLR photos can be edited in instagram Why not make another main category just for instagram pictures. So there's a fair duel.

It's just not fair for real mobile photos to be dueled against instagram edited DSLR photos. a fact even my pictures not edited in instagram can be possibly submitted to instagram sub category.

Mobile Photos category is becoming a cheaters category. And the real mobile photographers are leaving. This is so sad. It's time to react, Pixoto!

winning or loosing is part of the game. but loosing to instagram edited DSLR photos under the mobile photo category is like alienating the mobile photographers from its own world.

I think you have a point. However, the issue is that it has always been possible to upload any type of photo to the mobile category. The only way we can really fix this is to move instagram out of mobile and then enforce exif requirements. This might work - BUT mobile was by far our smallest category generating less than 200 images in a week and if we restrict to exif only then we will reduce demand even further (not to mention creating a enforcement headache). So I'm not really sure what to do here. Your thoughts/advice would be appreciated.

As long as you can submit DSLR photos via Instagram to Mobile Photos category, Instagram should not be allowed there. Otherwise you can rename the category to 'Instagram' or even better 'Cheaters' category.
If Pixoto has a category Mobile Photos I expect that there are ONLY photos shot with a mobile phone. Obviously, if you exclude all the Instagram and EXIF deleted photos, sometimes there will be no daily award (as there might be less than 50 images) and less points. But at least Mobile would be Mobile only.
Mobile photography is becoming more and more popular. So give Mobile Photos a chance!

I couldn't agree more... anyway. I love your current iphone photos. if a mobile photo tops the ranking against other instagram photos (which some are probably DSLR photos) then it goes to show mobile photographers are even more creative and artistic. :)

I think the best way to eliminate cheating with instagram category is to remove it or better make it a new main category. so whether an instagram photo is taken by a DSLR or mobile phone camera there won't be any questions anymore. the fact is, a lot of photographers are very much aware of mobile phone photography already.

Photo submission maybe reduced but I think it wouldn't be a dramatic drop. before instagram was added as a sub category there were at least 250-300 mobile photos submitted weekly. So I think those real mobile phone photographers continues to submit their mobile phone photos. So I would assume there would be more than 300 submission weekly even if instagram is removed.

as of today there are almost 500 pictures under mobile photos(android, iphone, others -including the cheaters), not including the instagram.

see how frustrating it is for mobile photographers to compete against DSLR photos under the mobile photos category?

can I name some DSLR photographers resorting to instagram to get higher image scores and awards and even winning cash prizes? So frustrating.
I don't understand why they claim their photos are taken from a mobile phone camera. Do fashion photographers now resort to mobile phone cameras to take fashion shots?

I reported this many times. although exif was deleted. the photographer entitled it as "Waiting For Something... : Canon 7D, Unedited."
Canon 7d? really? isn't that obvious?

Hope this doesnt duplicate, I lost the other message.. I am new to pixoto and enjoy it tremendously.. it is a outlet for me to post some of my photos and it is already making me realize that to compete I have to learn learn learn each time I take a photo.. I love the freedom here..but with that said.. I also just discovered that I have instagram on my ipod... and find I enjoy the instagram too... for me, it is just fun...it is something I can do when I dont want to be serious and be concerned with lighting, settings, natural light.. .. with the ipod, I can snap a pic anyplace at anytime.. I can't say how many times I have wished I had my camera with me and saw a perfect setting, or a wonderful shot.. so now I will use my ipod which slips into my pocket.... I know I have seen some pretty bad instagram photos.. but even then.. they are often just smile pics... they are what they are.. for the most part, just light hearted non serious pictures.. not photographs.. but pictures..
