Hey Tom,

When we changed our algorithms today, it was necessary to unpause all images across Pixoto. It will take just a bit of time before ImageDuels have had a chance to work through all of the images on the site again and adjust the ones that should be paused back to a paused state. It will correct itself within the next day is my guess.

After that, you should find your images that are unpaused getting lots of action again.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

They are up! Congrats on winning Pets!

Justin has three huskies and was rooting for you. Good thing he doesn't have anything to do with the algorithms or we might have some trouble.

Points will actually show up on your profile in the morning and you'll probably get a few emails.

Cheers

Jason

Christy - older images rarely get duels - that's the way the system is designed. Is that what you are asking?

That is not totally true, this image has been dueled 447 times, and many other favs I see with over 300 duels, while others are shut off of the dueling system. Here is the link to their favorite, it was dueled in one sitting over five times, I see many repeats when I am voting, and see others with just one duel or none.

Images with over about 150 duels will be dueled very infrequently. Is this what you are experiencing?

I still have unpaused pics but nothing happens with them. Do you keep them for later duels. I'm not sure to understand this. By the way: I love pixoto,

Depends how many duels they have. Some earlier images have so many duels that they are not currently being played. They will however be played in the future and we will give "Best of the Year" awards in January.

Hi Jason,
I already have more then 50 images and keep adding ...... but what should I do while duels still under 100, add for 2 weeks ago, score still bellow 400 and status is not paused....... How can I actively get my image duel?

For now the only way to get your image more duels is to re-submit it. Here is the average number of duels you can expect for images that achieve a given ImageScore:

ImageScore # of Duels
75 25
150 30
300 50
400 65
450 80
500 125
550 160
600 185
650 200
700 220

Jason - your average figures may be right, but ... not for all. For example (and it is not singular) one of my images from last week got a score of 535 receiving 01 duels, with 53 wins and 38 losses, therefore still having potential to go higher should it have participated in more duels (let's say a minimum of 125-150 as your figures show).

As I said, this is NOT an exception lately, looks more like a rule. I must say I am a little bitter about the way your algorithm is presently working and I think I am not the only one. I simply don't understand on which basis the algorithm favors SOME photos giving a lot more duels and stops others which should go higher (according to your own explanations, examples and figures).

Please find below the link to the photo, if needed I can provide more, as there ARE more !

I should have stated above that those figures came from images that have been on the site for roughly a month. It is quite likely the image you are talking about will get more votes over the next four weeks. These votes will come in waves when incoming duels increase in proportion to images. Lately we are getting the opposite - more images less duels so older images are not being voted on.

I think you will find that if you look at other images submitted around the same time as yours that have roughly the same image score - that they will also have roughly the same number of duels.

The system is not arbitrary but given the constantly changing user behavior the number of duels an image will get is impossible to predict.

My take away from this is that many of our members would like to get more duels for their images. Statistically speaking, if there is no way use extra votes to stack the rankings, then there is no problem with an image getting more votes. We are developing a way for members to request additional votes for their images. Look for it within the next week or so.

Thank you for the answer, Jason, it's nice to let us ALL understand how it works. And ... no, the number of duels is sometimes very different even for photos posted in the same amount of time. Well - as good as it could be, any system can be made better - and from what you say you're working hard to do it :)

Another example - an image that did well, getting a score of 487 from 67 duels (39W-28L) and has been given no more duels recently. Submitting is not a solution, as the same behaviour happens again - believe me, I've seen it several times in the last two weeks.

If the same behavior happens again then the system is working the way it should be. I would be disappointed if you got vastly different results when you resubmit.

Disappointed you can already be :) ! One of the photos that stalled at about 490 in the same manner as above simply up rocketed when I re-submitted one week later and ended up to 648, 3rd in the top of the day and top 5% of the week!!!
It is exactly the photo I did speak about in the other thread, that I saw duelled with older and increasingly better rated images and I really admired the wise way the algorithm worked.

http://www.pixoto.com/images-photogra...

I admit that this could have been an exception though, but it may also prove that the system CAN work correctly and the fact that unexplained stalls occur is the result of some unforeseen flaws in the algorithm which I am confident will be cured in time. :)

I fully underwrite Gabriel 's statement and I share the same frustration. The stalling and duel pausing is very discouraging for every player that tries to give the best of itself in the competition (don' t we all ?). The algorithm is obviously not able to cope with the current inflow of submissions and should IMO seriously be upgraded. The fact that a resubmission can reverse the scoring completely is the best proof of it....
