Can you post a link to the picture it might help explain what the problem is ?

As for moving without your consent............ Join the Club, it happens a lot just depends if you put it in the wrong category to start with, or they messed up again !

Like i said show us the image and i am sure someone will sort it for you.

If photos do not fit Pixoto's definition for the category, it will be moved if it is reported. I don't know if you've had a look at the "rules" for Landscapes, but here they are:
"Landscape – Photos where the natural scenery is a subject. If the subject is anything other than a natural scene (e.g. a city, a building, a person, an animal, a natural or man-made object) – don’t put it here. City, building, person, animal, natural or man-made object can be object in landscape photography that adds interest to the scene, but it must cover less then 20% of photo and must not dominate the landscape."

The photo that you linked to above would likely be considered to be dominated by the architectural element.

I would have also been tempted to put it in sunrise sunset... unfortunately the sunset vs suspended structure as the main subject is subjective in itself. I often get upset when any sunset with vibrant colour steals every category. so maybe just drop the sunset subcategory altogether, it is redundant.

Joyce, here's how I look at it (and I have no idea if Pixoto staff would agree with me or not, but it's something I consider before I click the Report button): if it wasn't early in the evening, would it still be a landscape? If the answer is no, then I don't think it belongs in Landscapes. A photo doesn't become a landscape just because the sky starts to turn orange......in my opinion anyway, for whatever that's worth.
:-)

(In other words, if it's a photo of a skyscraper during the day and should be in Architecture, it doesn't become a Landscape because the sun starts to go down.)

I have mentioned it before and I think it bears repeating....I wish Pixoto would put a sunrise/sunset sub-category in the Cities category, and the People category too. I think they are needed.

by the same token, if I am photographing a beautiful sunset with a blaze of colours and taking the skill of getting the exposure, focus and composition right, then it shouldn't be discounted as the subject just because there is a building or bridge off to one side to anchor the photo. By your own definition Landscape would be limited to untouched by human intervention only and that would mean only wilderness landscapes... there are so many more landscape definitions. the English language is soo much more complicated than that.

i think people should keep their sticky beaks out ... staff or users .. because actually in some types of photography for example Lightpainting .. there is NO category - so we get stuck in with cars, trees etc and labeled as "digital artists" ie photoshoppers ... can't they just trust our judgement unless its offensive / stolen ... :(

Hello Michael, I will ask for clarification about recategorization of your photo. I will let you know when I get feedback.

Hello Michael, I'm really sorry about recategorization. Since the pier is less then 20% of the photograph and it is not the subject, the photo could have stayed in Landscape category. We have added 1000 credits to your account and recategorized the photo back.
Please accept my apologies.

Thanks Jasenka. With the image having caused such consternation I am tempted to pull it out of publication as I don't know how it has truly rated. Michael

Yet again the same old problem arises, the categories are to literal for the photos,

Is it a sunset or not because it has a ship in it,?
Is it a meadow because there is a tree in it ?
There is a flower but its the wrong type of flower for the category, blah blah blah... yawn................

Why don't you just open the categories to give more leeway ? then there should be less reporting of wrong categories (still get the same amount of moaning i don't doubt) but should get less mistaken re categorizations. ?

A win win as far as i could see !

I have suggested an open category for just this reason, a place where you can enter an image that doesn't quite work in the current category choices. Imagine a category where no one can report you for being in the wrong category? Must be upsetting to some.......

I predict water lilies will overtake the entire Pixoto site and eventually rule the world.

In Canada we call those 'invasive species' and there is open season on eradicating them, lol

Some will find this funny....I did: Last night, I was going through a folder of photographs I took down in Florida back in 2006 -- and I came across several images I took of a water lily pond! Rest assured I won't be posting them, as they were terribly over-exposed. There went my chance to join the water-lily club!

That's funny Lenore! Too bad such an innocent flower has gotten such a bad rap.
