Hi,
I want to understand what logic is being used when calculating image Score?
Another thing that i want to understand even though the image duel score has more wins than losses, why does my image pauses.

There is very less clarity on how these 2 things work. Kindly explain & take a look of some of my images, I never expected them to perform way better than they are doing right now.

Hello Deepak, please check why images are paused here: http://www.pixoto.com/about

"Why is my image "Paused"?

Images get paused if they are statistically unlikely to move up to the top 10% of all images (approximately 615 ImageScore). Sometimes we determine this within this within 6 duels sometimes it takes 100. The key is that in order to provide good clarity into which images are in the top 10 we must vote the best images a lot. With a limited amount of duels available to us the best way to accomplish this is by pausing images once we've determined that they are not likely to get near the top. We use statistics so by definition we are not 100% confident that the image should be paused and so to address this issue we added the "get more votes" feature (the "play" button on the leaderboards). Under certain circumstances Paused images may still be placed in to duels and may be unpaused automatically."

Win/loss ratio is not only method to determine image score, please check more why on this blog post: http://blog.pixoto.com/2012/09/why-wi...

I hope this helps.

hi Jasenka,

Thanks for providing the detailed method used for calculation.

However I still want to ask one doubt from blog http://blog.pixoto.com/2012/09/why-wi...

In 2 scenario's which are mentioned, for 'Image#1 (a not very good image)' & 'Image#2 (an amazing image)'. As a photographer I would upload all my best pictures on Website like Pixoto, and naturally for me all my pictures would be amazing(unless I am putting absolute crap picture). So dou you guys check each image uploaded & categorize them in a lot of "Not a Good" or "Amazing" image.
If not then what is the logic/algorithm that you use identify the quality of picture.

I would personally suggest you to take a look at my pictures and tell me what all are amazing or not good as per your Algorithm/manual selection procedure. Understanding this logic is really important for me that how you categorize an image as "Not so good" or "Amazing" as soon as they are uploaded/reach 360+ score.

Hi Deepak, in blog is explained dramatic illustration, meaning images in between not so good and amazing will be somewhere in between, and exactly where depends on how many users liked them (and according to that voted for them in duels).

I hope this helps.

Beats me I still cant understand it ! And what's more i have had images paused several times and still reach hight scores !

It always happens in the very early stages a high percentage of images i enter get paused in the first 10 to 15 duels ! but for some reason if i resubmit them costing me a second entry fee and initial boost they often for some unknown reason have changed to images that are not paused ?

Why is it that if we pay twice costing 58 credits instead of 29 (10 to enter 19 to boost X 2 ) we have a better chance of success with our images ?

Hi Ralph, when you resubmit image it is possible that it will duel different images and also users who vote will be different and that is why you get different score.

I hope this helps.

I know i have heard that before but it happens so often and at the start ? often the images will not pause again just the once sometimes not but it has only started to be so consistent since the option to pay for credits started ?

Now i am not suggesting it is a deliberate way for Pixoto to make money but there was no need to submit twice before ?

Then you may be right too but again it didn't used to happen ?

Ralph - the second time an image is submitted, from an algorithmic perspective, is exactly the same as the first. So I'm not sure why you are having the experience you are. If your images are trending plus or minus 50 points of 530 then it is likely they will get paused sometimes - and not others. I know from personal experience that when I unpause or resubmit my images that always get paused again. But my photo skills are lacking...
