Illustration & Design question

I have two questions for Pixoto staff with regards to the Illustration & Design category.

1) It says in the category description: "Any photography, or other image components, used in the illustrations or designs must have been created by you OR you must have a valid content licence."

Do items that have Creative Commons permissions count as a "valid content licence"? AND, does public domain imagery also count? As an example of this, the maps at this location -- http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/topo/c... -- clearly state the images are in the public domain.

2) Is there any real difference between this category and the Digital Art category?

Lots of images in Illustration and design belong to Digital art category. In my opinion the Digital art category should be closed and images of photographs which are highly manipulated (do not look real) should be placed under Illustration and design under Digital art. Lot of people do not follow the rules which say that no photographic element should be present in Illustration and Design. It's better to get rid of the independent Digital art category. When Illustration and Design category first started, I had a few highly manipulated photographic designs which were highly ranked and they were removed as it contained photographic elements but now the Report team doesn't seem to bother to re-categorize them. Just stripping off your exif information doesn't make your image Not a photograph (an Illustration as per Pixoto rules). That category needs a change.

That's so confusing because it clearly states photographs are allowed: "Any photography, or other image components, used in the illustrations or designs must have been created by you OR you must have a valid content licence." It's a shame your images were removed.

I do a lot of digital artwork and I'm totally confused as to where it should go. I too am thinking that perhaps the Digital Art category should just be eliminated and the images in it be incorporated into Design.

Lenore and Dipali, the category description for Illustration and design has been changed.

You can see new description here

http://blog.pixoto.com/category-descr...

Use of photos was only ment to be in Web and apps, not whole Illustration part of site. So any illustration that is not in Web&apps shouldn't have any (or any part of) photo in it.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply Jasenka. Are the Strawberry, fish alphabets in Typography considered as Illustrations or Digital art? They contain a photographic element.

Thanks, Jasenka. This raises a couple of other questions :-)

With regards to the Typography sub-catgegory in Illustration and Design, does this mean that all the individual letters of the alphabet that have been created using photographs are now going to be removed? Where will they be put? And what about the artwork in typography that's been created with photographs? You can see examples of what I mean by looking at last month's Leaderboard:
http://www.pixoto.com/images-illustra...

And a related question: In the Digital Art category, is text now allowed? For example, #12 on the Leaderboard, above......where will it go? Will a new sub-category in Digital Art be created for designs with words in them?

Thank you for all your questions Lenore and Dipali, you have been great help to us.

After considering what has been said by both of you here, and other members in other topics too, we have come to conclusion to write more clear category rules for Illustration and design section, which are now updated.

Also we have decided to abandon Print & Graphics category, so submission to that category will no longer be available.

Hope all is covered now.

Thank you Jasenka! Looks good now. The line in Category Descriptions under Illustration and Design, where it says that "The Pixoto Marketplace is a great placed to find content." needs a little change. :)

Jasenka, thanks very much to you and the Pixoto team for the updated description, which makes it much clearer as to what is and isn't allowed. Much appreciated!
