How to know if Weekly Contest entry was successful.

I pressed "enter" for the Weekly Contest, then uploaded my image. However, although my upload created an automatic deduction of 10 points from my total, there are no other deductions for entry into the Contest. How do I know if I am entered?

Hello Marilyn, did you mean that you are entering photo to Pixoto Weekly Challenge? Or just to regular weekly contest? If you are just submitting it to weekly contest (as upload it to your profile page) upload "cost" 10 credits.

If you photo was successfully entered to weekly contest you will see it in your portfolio.

If you are referring to challenges, you can see on Preview challenge entries if your photo was successfully entered into challenge.

If this doesn't help, please let me know.

Hi, Jasenka,

I replied to this via e-mail but I think I have to reply here. I did mean the Pixoto Weekly Challenge. I pressed "Enter Contest", then uploaded "Winter and Spring" image from my computer. I then pressed "Promote" and then couldn't find any way of verifying whether this had then gone into the Contest. It shows no record of having been entered into anything other than "All Drawing" and the points used were only those required for posting the work. The same thing happened last week with my drawing "Friends" and it doesn't appear to have been entered in last week's Contest either. I have no doubt the fault lies with me as I'm hopeless with computers, but I do hope you may be able to help me work this out.

Thanks,
Marilyn

Hello Marilyn, if you want to upload photos directly to weekly challenge you will need to go to challenge page http://www.pixoto.com/challenges click on the challenge you want to enter, and on the bottom of challenge page there is green "Upload from your computer" button. Upon clicking it you have to select photo you would like to enter and when you fill all needed information (type, category, subcategory) you will need to click on blue "Submit" button.
You can check if your photo was uploaded to challenge, while you are on challenge page just click on tab "Preview Contest Entries" and your photo should be near top of all entries that are entered in challenge.

I hope this helps.

Hi, Jasenka,

I have just tried to enter the Pixoto Weekly Contest once again (this is the one that awards cash prizes). I selected "Enter Contest", uploaded my image, filled in the details, pressed "Publish Images" and, once again, it then left the page without any further opportunity to do a "Submit" and, unlike the general challenges, there wasn't any "Preview Contest Entries". There is no record on the painting that it is entered into the Weekly Contest.

Marilyn, are you by any chance confusing challenges with the contests?
:-)

EVERY image we upload to Pixoto is submitted into the "contests"; that's automatic. That is just the term Pixoto uses to describe the duels. Every single image we upload will duel and could win an award -- awards are given out to the top photos for the day, the week, the month and then the year. That's the point of Pixoto -- every photo we upload duels against the other photos in the category in which it is in. Like I said, Pixoto calls them contests, but it is not something you can choose or not -- if you upload a photo to Pixoto, it's going to duel. Or, to use Pixoto's term, it's now participating in the contests ... first daily, then weekly, then monthly, etc.

The "challenges" are different, something extra we can also do with our photos. We have to go to the Challenges page, click on a challenge if we like the theme, read the rules, then decide if we want to enter an image. They are totally separate from the ongoing voting; many people never even look at the challenges or enter any.

If you decide while you're looking at a challenge that you like the theme, you can either choose your entries from the photos you've already uploaded to Pixoto, or you may want to enter a photo that you haven't yet submitted to Pixoto. If that's the case, you can do the upload right from the challenge page. That is only a small convenience but it doesn't change the process. You still have to go through the upload and choose a category for the photo, etc, pay for the upload with ten credits and that photo, once uploaded, joins all your other photos in competing in the ongoing duels (or, "contests"). You ALSO have to pay in credits to enter the challenge (which differs from challenge to challenge, they can be as low as 10 or as high as 25).

Bottom line: "contests" are automatic. Once you upload a photo and choose its category, you're now in the "contest" for that category. You don't have to do anything else, the mere act of uploading the photo guarantees its participation. Challenges, on the other hand, are optional and have their own separate page and require extra credits.

I hope that maybe helps a bit :-)

Thanks, Lenore. I understand the Challenges. But it's the Weekly Contests that win cash prizes I was asking about. If these are automatically entered, then that's great and you have answered my question. Would this be so?

Thanks, Jasenka. If the Contests with cash prizes are entered automatically, then, yes, this answers my question.

Marilyn, if any photo you upload wins the #1 position in its category for the week, in a category where more than 1,000 photographs were submitted during the week, then there is a cash prize. Good luck!
