The first two look identical, just cropped. The other three are the same child in the same hooded jacket but slightly different expressions, so I would imagine they qualify as similar but not identical.

Don't the rules state: no near similar images. I could see if the little girl was different but wearing the same hooded jacket. Why would you put so many same looking images together in the same day or week?

Sandy...from Pixoto rules:

NO VERY SIMILAR IMAGES: You may submit an unlimited number of images but each one must be significantly different from the others. This means only one image of any subject and scene/pose combination is allowed (e.g. either b/w or color - not both). You may however delete an image and resubmit it at any time. If reported, and we agree that the images are not distinct enough, the newer image will be deleted. This is critical for keeping the Pixoto community vibrant, exciting and fun (note - this rule effective 6/1/2012).

The way I interpret this rule is as follows: "...must be significantly different from the others" is totally up to the discretion of Pixoto staff, and from what we've all seen they are very lenient as to their interpretatiion of "significantly different."

The major portiion of this statement is: "only one image of any subject and SCENE/POSE combination is allowed." The magic word in regards to your inquiry above is POSE, which I capitalized on purpose. A shifting of the eyes, hands, tongue, hair etc, apparently qualify as a different pose, and that is why I imagine they have not deleted his entries.

As to your question: "Why would you put so many same looking images together in the same day or week?"

The simple answer is: Because he can. He seems to have a winner in that shot so he's going to milk it for all it's worth. You've seen this in most of the categories, especially Animals, where I usually post...same bird, same eye direction, slightly different wing position. Big awards.

Don't think it's going to change.

its a challenge that only one photographer has ever managed to succeed at - at least to my satisfaction- entering nearly 400 close ups of the same 2 young girls faces (maybe a dozen are of other people)

http://www.pixoto.com/gansforever

He uses different eye colors and clothing to keep them different looking. Many of these other child photographers are trying to copy his work.

Not sure if anyone saw my other message regarding this photographer- I'm concerned if something happened to him because he basically submitted new photos every day all last year- then suddenly stopped on Dec 29. He's a primary school teacher in Malaysia .

Janna, Who is trying to copy his work? I will honestly say that his work is good, but repetitious and over submitting. All his images are so similar it borders breaking the rules. There is no originality, the same old same old type of images. Beautiful indeed, but you don't need 20 images in the same subcategory. I as you hope all is well for him.

Sandy -of the links above one was an obvious recrop but Trey is right - the others would not qualify as Very Similar. That said that photographer does have a number of very similar images in his portfolio and we have asked him to clean it up.

ummmm - could that also be done for one or two of the flower photographers who submit vast numbers of similar flower photos daily with minor angle changes, etc.

Jus' askin'...

Is this the same photographer who originally posted those pictures at the top, only with a different name?

link

I can't find any of the pictures with the girl in the furry hood anymore, so either all of those high scoring ones have been removed, or the entire profile removed and this is a different one.

Has some unnecessary action been taken here?
