Will the photo id and dob be visible to other users and be visible on web? That is a very sensitive information.. my concern is- will all that information be safe on
Pixoto? What docs can be used as photo id. I know DL and passport are some. What else can be used for photo id?

DOB and Photo ID are NOT visible to anyone except Pixoto staff members who are verifying your identity as part of our review process. Good question though.

Could you show us an example of how the Pixoto watermark would look like? Also can we add the already uploaded pictures for stock or only the new pictures we upload can be added for stock?

You can add any image that you have already uploaded (as long as it is over 4MP). Just go to the image detail page and click license for stock.

Here's an example of an image with a watermark:

We're not sure if we recommend watermarking at this point - but we know that it would be a requirement for some stock photographers.

Most of my images I post here are resized and are less that 4 mb. I have them full size, but if I replace the current image with a large image, I'll lose the awards and points I've received for that image, right ???

Ralph - you only need to upload our driver's license once. You'll then be able to submit as many stock photos as you want. You will need to upload model releases for each image that has a person it it - but you only need to upload each release once and then you'll be able to use it again on other images of the same model.

I know the watermark argument is getting a pain in the neck but am I the only person here that thinks the watermark as shown here

http://www.pixoto.com/images-photogra...

is a bit naff?

many other sites and my own library have a watermark that at least makes the viewed image useless until its paid for and downloaded. this "PIXOTO" written across the middle is easily worked around and the majority of the image can still be used without having to buy it.

have a look at camerocks for example

https://www.camerocks.com/more_exif.p...

not the best by far but at least it makes most of the image pretty useless unless you are good with stitching programmes.

one of the best ones for un-obtrusive but detering watermarks is depositphotos

http://depositphotos.com/9451466/stoc...

Click on the image to see a larger view then see how its busy with watermarks but you can still see the image great? I stopped using them for other reasons but their watermarking is great, it would be real difficult to rid the image of it all completely.

Just my thoughts, i wont be licencing through pixoto if the watermark stays like it is and I dont think I'm the only one :(

Michelle - thanks for your thoughts. So if we made the logo a bit larger and enhanced the prominence of the white lines (like deposit photos) would that work for you? Maybe a white line that split the image in half too?

something along those lines, yes, would be better :) I just think less people would be inclined to fork out actual cash for an image if they think they may be able to get it for free with little compromise so better watermarking would be welcomed by buyers aswell as contributors.

OK - we'll create a new watermark with this in mind. Thanks for the feedback

Great progress Pixoto and wish the best (and hope to take advantage of). Providing a copy of my government issued photo ID electronically, does not sound like a good idea to me. I am seriously concerned about security and security breaches. What assurances do I have that these highly personal documents are securely transmitted or (if electronically maintained) they resided on a non-networked computer, and/or encrypted so no-one breaching Pixoto can gain access to these documents.

It's one thing to get your credit card number stolen (despite the hassle, you can easily close and reopen a credit card account). Having your passport or driver ID information stolen is an entirely different matter!

I may sound pretty old-fashioned, but I would feel somewhat more comfortable "faxing" such information rather than e-mailing or uploading, or any other "online" operation. It may complicate things on Pixoto's site, but we're talking about sensitive personal documents here.

I understand your concern and several other members have expressed a similar concern. You may also fax us your ID at 303-845-7979 or mail it to us at
1825 Pearl St.

If you are going to do this then uploaded a .jpg file or pdf with the words - ID coming under separate cover.
