duels within sub-categories and awards in the sub-categories

I feel like I'm disturbing you a lit bit with all my feedbacks but I have another idea (posted this already but cannot find it). What do you think about having duels in the sub-categories. I mean flowers and plants against flowers and plants, kids against kids, cars against cars etc. And then also give the awards in the sub-categories...... I don't know if this is to much work for you but I ask anyway: who is with me ????

I like this idea. I find it frustrating to see fine art - people competing with fine art - things. That is a difficult comparison, as are others, to judge in my opinion.

Michelle, I'm with you. Then perhaps the winners of the sub-category fight it out for the overall category.

I second (or third) this motion. Apples to apples comparisons. Also would help in pets, when a dog and cat are both shown, but some folks are cat people, even though the dog pic might have been better (eliminates bias).

Yes! tired of my fish being matched with a goat or cow! My child picture was matched with a tattoo on someone's leg! Fish with fish- even pet fish with wildlife fish. Eyes need their own category.

I agree!!!!! It would make more sense to duel like pictures in sub categories before they go to the main title category! Kudos on the idea!!!!!

Once I was dueled with my spider web .. against a fishing net......

I would be all for sub categories competition but in some categories it might be hard to find enough other like photos to compete against..

But, if they could pull that off.. it would make this so much more fun..... and while on a topic of categories... since there are so many flower entries. I almost think that flowers should be off by themselves.. there are surely enough entries in flowers to compete against each other....they are a pretty dominant category..

JoAnn, that sounds like the fishingnet was definitely in the wrong category. We try to move images as quickly as possible when they are in the wrong category, but sometimes they have several duels before they are moved.,

Sherry.. that was quite a while ago.. it just always stuck in my mind.... thought it was a bit humorous.. .maybe the structure of the fish net would be considered 'web'....lol...

I share the opinion that the flower should be a separate category because never any leaf or blade of grass will not be good enough ljepi to be better positioned than the flower.

Also, the flower category is inundated with entries and it waters the sub categories down, so much that you would rarely get an award. Make the flowers category totally separate, IN fact make an entire website just for flowers, water drops, and bug photos!

just sayin

Would it be okay if I asked Pixoto employees to visit the "other" category under Photograph/Transportation/Other and maybe consider making two new sub categories for 1) Big Rigs (Semi Trucks and Tractors) and 2) Hot Air balloons?

Pitting a big rig against a hot air balloon doesn't really make sense, LOL, but, that is the standard competition under that specific sub category. Without additional sub categories for each option, there isn't a choice at this time.

Hi Kitsi, all of the images in Transportation end up dueling one another anyway. The awards are given at the category level so the subcategories have to duel one another.

If we are not going to compete within sub categories why have them? Just throw them all together and vote anyway, wait, that is what is happening. That's just dumb! Could we please have puppies vs puppies, etc at least then they stand a chance...

Hello Leon, since awards are assign on category level, not subcategory, photos in one subcategory need to duel photos in other subcategories in order to find its place in category leaderboard. Subcategories are for organizational purpose.

Hope this helps.

Jasenka this thread is over two years old why hasn't pixoto even acknowledged this idea? This is exactly why people get soooooo frustrated here it's as if no one cares!

Its true... I am not sure why the categories need subcategories for "organizational purposes" either... There are categories, such as animals, for example, that are far too broad.

It just seems to reason that when the management gets the same suggestion over and over again, that they might bow to the wishes of the membership... Why can't there be awards for subcategories? People seem to favor this...

I suggested a while ago that subcategories just be done away with and people be required to add tags to their photos.....a good set of tags makes organization better, I think.

(Now, having said that, if Pixoto is not going to do away with subcategories, I wish they would add a "cemetery/graveyard" subcategory to Cities.)
