This morning, I have contacted the administrators Pixoto for them of my disappointment in regards to their system of duels. Here is my text:

Those responsible Pixoto.

I will start by saying that I have loved the concept of your site. Really. However, I admit I `to live with some reluctance that are also shared by many photographer friends who expose too on your site. What annoys us deeply is the mode dce duel that put us in competition with images off categories. For example, in my case, I `` exhibits a portrait of bearded man and homeless, who finds himself competing with girls in bikinis. Honestly, do you find it okay? My picture up in the points when I fight in my class and down dramatically when I have had to compete with what he is sexier on your site. Your dueling system is too random and really should be revised. This is a great source of frustration and anger for all photographers I know and expose your site. We talk a lot about us on Facebook and we begin to consider withdrawing Pixoto us for the reasons given above. But before `act in this way, we would love to hear your explanation for this state of affairs and whether you have the` intention to `make the necessary corrections before 2032. Thank you for your attention.

PS:. Perhaps the text is full of mistakes because I `ve had to use Google translate to communicate with you. I'm French.

Here is another image that is my closest competitor, but to whom I am much respect. He saw absolutely the same problem that most of us ... `C `is frankly nonsense and totally unfair ... If you want for other images to accredit my statements, I can innonder in minutes ... It will not be difficult to find ...

Totally agree! Categories are too much "flexibles" in duels. There should be less (or none) subcategories mixes.

Like don't duel "Portraits of Men" with a "Portrait of Women". While this may sometimes make perfect sense, it'll probably lead more often than not, to unfair duels.

The same thing applies to other categories. When reptiles go against a sweet little kitten, my odds to win are alot diminished. Should I only take photos of kitten then ? I don't think so...

Or maybe offer the photographer the choice for their photo to compete against "wide category" or not.

So how many categories would we end up with, ?

If each subcategory only dueled against its own like, we would end up with hundreds of categories.

I wouldn't make sense

Out of the top 50 images in people so far this year 8 are of men. The amount of submitted images of women far outweigh that of women so this a pretty good number.

A good image of a man (like the first 2 images in this post) would get my vote over most of the images of women.

The problem isn `t limited to the category of men. I `ve done a lot of architectural photography and I will have to live exactly the same problem ... The day that `we see an F1 race in NASCAR, I will be silent for ever ... Otherwise ...

I guess there's a part of the problem coming from the categories, but the other part comes from the voters. In fact, amateur like me and professionnals (I hope) will be able to judge a pic in it's technique performance, artistic creation and emotional aspects... and not over the beauty of the subject. I assume it is entirely possible to realize a great and perfect pic by taking a "full load of dead fish in putrefaction" and this kind of pic should win over a blurry, bad cropped portrait of the most beautiful thing in the world!

The aspect of pixto I find interesting is there's now a "novice category". Altough this catergory could contain all others, the question is: do we need an "artistic" category and a "technique" category ? Or maybe two kind of vote like: one for the subject and the other one for performance of realisation?

Hello everyone, since the awards are given out at the category level the subcategories are more for organizational purposes than anything else. They help you see your images with others like it and it also helps people that might be interested in purchasing stock to find the types of images they are looking for,

If the people category was broken down in many smaller categories, no cash prizes would ever be awarded. The minimum entries would never be met.
