Duels not fair, some pictures are not appearing at all!!!

There is something I would like to understand. I have submitted 20 images since this morning, in different categories. I have then asked a friend to check Pixoto and see how my images are doing. He clicked (voted ) exactly 200 times and didn't come across a single photo that I have posted. Statistically, that's surprising, isn't it? What's going on with those duels? I have noticed that it's almost always the same photos that we vote for (some of them I have already seen at least 5 times!!!). Are the duels rigged or what? Why are my pictures not appearing?

400 clicks (votes) later, and we still haven't seen any of my pictures...something is definitely not right here.

Marie - if you're logged into your account, you'll never see your pictures - you are not allowed to vote on your own images.

On top of that, I would add that your friend should not be here for the purpose of voting up your images. If you want to know how they are doing, look at your account. It will list the image score and number of duels for each image.

You miss the point...I wanted to see how many times my images effectively appear in the duels, which is why we logged from another account. And the result is convincing. We haven't seen a single one of them!!!! The purpose was not to have someone vote on my photos. Why is it that people on this website feel it necessary to try to "give lessons" on topics that don't concern them? My question was for the Pixoto staff, who are the only ones in controle(?) of this site which is turning out to be complete bollocks.

BTW, you also missed the point - if you want to know how many duels your images are receiving, you need only to look at them on your page, where it will list the number of duels the image has received, and how many wins/losses. Having your friend "check to see how they are doing" should be completely unnecessary.

Geez, you gals sure love to yap on and on to say nothing. Have fun, you don't need me for this, you can keep wagging tongues while I do something more interesting, like trying to unbderstand how screwed up this site really is (not just according to me, either...).

Why are you so combative? You post on a public forum, asking a question, and then get pissed off and insulting because you don't like the answer you get. Next time, send a private e-mail and avoid wasting our time trying to help you.

This is the community forum where members help members and members discuss issues amongst themselves; Pixoto staff do post in here but they are not always here. If you want to have a private between-you-and-Pixoto-only discussion, then email them.

Duh...this is a topic that might actually interest other people who have the same problem. If you have nothing constructive to contribute, please abstain from responding, I'm not here to make small talk.

Duh back at you. You can't have it both ways. Either this is a public topic, open to all, any way they see fit, or take it offline.

With the expectation I will be told it's none of my business I would like to offer some information.

Last I heard there was something like 5000 pics submitted to Pixoto on a daily basis. If those pics only dueled against the pics submitted on "their" day there would be something like 2500 pairings. Pics however, do not only duel against pics in "their" day but also yesterday, the day before, pics in last week, last month etc so the number of pairings would be a lot higher than that..

Probability would be way down that after 400 duels you would chance upon pics that have had 15, 20 or even 40 duels.

Some pics do happen to come up a couple times but that's just the luck of the draw.

Just to throw some numbers at the whole thing. 5000 pics submitted, 2500 duels combinations X 50 average duels per day = 125,000 duels per day. Meaning 400 duels divided by 125,000. Probability of .0032%

Excellent explanation, Mark. I have friends who are members here and in the few months that I have been here, I have hardly ever seen their photos -- and I vote very often. Since they have great success with the top awards, their photos are certainly getting the duels :-)

Mark, you're probably right, I'm aware there are too many duels and that might be an explanation, but I've repeated the experiment now after adding almost 50 pics today, and we are still waiting to see one. It's really weird, but perhaps it only means I have bad luck. Guess I'd better not try to play the lottery...

You probably have more chance of winning a prize in the lottery than seeing one of your pics (I mean someone else voting 100% unbiased and you looking over their shoulder).

I will respectfully disagree with that Mark! many(several times) when I am voting i see fellow togs photos come up I have to skip the duels but they do come up and one day i had seen the same image twice.

I think I said that there is the luck of the draw that you will see some pics more often. There are days when I too have to skip when I see someone's pic that I know/follow/follow me but then I go days without seeing someone I need to skip.

Just throwing this in - when I vote, I only *rarely* see *any* images from my *category*, let alone specific images by a particular 'tog.

Marie,

If you logged in another account, just to see how your images duels, then most likely you will not see it as you're using same IP address which I think Pixoto system can detect. And I think this is good to avoid cheating.

This might be true as well, but in this case, we were logged from a completely different PC, so I doubt the IP comes into it. But just as Martin says, I very regularly come across the same photo over and over again (mostly with some photos of ducks...), so obviously the luck of the draw is much higher for some people than others. Hmmmm...

Its just as likely that you're seeing similar images by the same photographer. Some of them are quite alike, and unless compared side by side, you might not notice the differences.

Which in itself shouldn't happen...I thought that similar photos were forbidden. Just proves my point...

Did you have a point? You asked a question about why you weren't seeing your own images. I don't recall you making a point. A very good explanation about similar images can be found on the site. Normally, I'd post a link, to be helpful, but you clearly don't need my help.

Mark - you're not too far off.  We've been getting around 8,000 images and 400,000 duels each day.  So the probability if even smaller.

Marie - if your friend isn't seeing your images in duels then we are doing our job because needless to say we wouldn't want them to be..
