It seems you are not practicing what you preached ! You still let ppl upload hundreds of very similar pic but did not delete them cause theirs pic is so low score nobody bother to report them , while I only uploaded very high score pic which has make some loser really mad at my high score and thus reported them regulary , if you bother to look at my submisssion , I have only submit very few but quality pic , sometime it could be a little similar cause I and not sure which angle/ composition of the pic is more likable , unfortunately just when it was about to win a best / top of the week , it gets deleted ! Just how disappointed I am of this ! I have spend a lot of time taking and editing and submitting this photos with nothing to gain from , I felt my efforts is not being appreciated but keep getting attacked by some lousy compertitor/loser ! I will stop being a player , and will delete all my photos before all my hard work being used !

It is to bad that a good photographer such as you is leaving. I am not sure why you subscribe to the reasoning of "well he can do it why can't I" I thought you may have been above that. Just because a few losers that don't have the same talent as you have make it bad for us you should not just give up. Learn to play by the rules like many of us do. If you see someone breaking the rules you should use the report button. You are a great photographer Edwin. I personally feel you just need to be more selective in your subject matter and views that are very similar. It is not a matter of right and wrong but being fair to others. I do hope you re consider as I will miss seeing your flowers. This has all been my humble opinion. Oh and I for one appreciate all your efforts. It shows in the quality of your photos.

Thanks Andrew for your reply , I do not think you understand how I feel when I have 2 photos that according to you is very similar , one at the score of 750 points and was well love by all viewer and received a lot of praised comments but in the end it got deleted , while another photo which has a score of 690 points , you let it stay ! imaging you have 2 products , 1 well love and accetpted by all but you decide to take away from the market and leave the not so well received behind !Does that make sense ! I have notice quite a few very good photographer leaving this site , and I am sure I am not alone !

I understand Edwin. I do not work for Pixoto so I have no control over the process. All the rules and process on similar photos and duplicates are listed on the site and it is pretty specific. Maybe a better way to handle similar photos would be to just send an email to the member and ask them to delete one of the ones in question.
It is frustrating for me as well when I see great photographers uploading so many pictures that look so much alike that they use up all the awards and points so that those of us that are not as good as you can't get any and yet we have to play by the rules.and it seems you don't. So you see I do understand how it feels to be pushed out of getting an award because of unfairness. Please stay and help make this a great site. Get involved, offer ideas. No matter what you decide I wish you well.

So sorry Andrew , I thought you were from Pixoto staff , and now I know you are one of the Photographer , I have seen your works , nice ! Anyway thanks for the explaination given , It is still very subjective on the rules of ' very similar photos ' , I can understand no duplicate , but on the subject of flowers , how do you judge if they are very similar or quite similar ? Maybe they just state only one photo for the same flower , but different composition , angle , lighting effect ? I think I can't continue with all these confusion going on , I too do not like to take all the awards by myself , like I say if Pixoto received a report about similar photos , at least they have the courtesy to inform me about the similarity and let me decide which photos to delete , say in the spand of 24 hours ! As I am not aware that my entries have violated this rules in the first place ! Not when this photos was so well love by all and then one day it just disappear ! this has given me sleepless night thinking whether my image can stay for how long !

Maybe when they see this post they could try to restore the other photo that had the higher score and remove the lower scoring one. I am sure they will give serious consideration the email warning notice. I understand your love of photography. I have been doing it for over 40 years. :) Please try not to lose any more sleep over this. Just use that energy to take more great pictures.

Thanks again Andrew for your kind advice . We will see how this progress , I have taken the initiative to delete the photos that seems quite similar , frankly speaking , I have lost the thrill in joining this ' competitive image duel ' site , it seems we the player have no say what so ever , don't forget it is our contribution that make this site works in the first place , this had happen twice in a row of my two photos when it reaches 740+ points and about to receive 1st of the week ! this is too much for me , I think I will still take great photos without having to worry about how similar they look ! Thanks again , see you around .

Thank you Edwin. I think you are doing the right thing by taking the initiative here. I do think we have a say in what happens on this site. Things have changed and gotten better by people like us letting our opinions be heard in this forum. I do hope you will stay on here as we can make a bigger differance together. Change is never easy but necessary to grow.

Edwin. I'm truly sorry for the frustration. Photographers submitting very similar photos was causing the whole Pixoto experience to be flawed so we had to institute a rule that it was not allowed. We are fairly specific with the rule and in most cases, when an image is reported, the decision on whether it is too similar is pretty straight forward.

E.g. Same subject, same setting - too similar. Same subject different setting - not too similar. Same subject, different facial expression - not too similar. Same subject, same setting, different lighting/crop/angle - too similar. Same subject, same facial expression, different clothing - not too similar.

Our report team looks and every reported image and makes an assessment based on this.

What you seem to be most frustrated about is the fact that we ALWAYS delete the more recent one. We have this rule in place so that a photographer can not keep trying an similar image to see if they can get a better score and then delete the older one.

We can not ask you which one you want us to delete for the same reason above.

My suggestion: Only submit photos to Pixoto that are VERY different - then you will not run into this problem at all.

This is not a good place to find out which version of the same shot is better (I realize that the site works well for this - but it is still not something that we want to occur on the site).

Again - I know this is frustrating but please understand that we have this rule in place so that the Pixoto community is a better place to be for everyone.

Thanks Jason for taking the time to explain this subject . I believe you have the best of intention in setting this rule , but the results leave much to be desire ! Just have a look at top 10 player / contributor in each category and tell me all their entries are ' very different ' ! How the hell they are able to contribute 20-30 photos regulary with the same category each day/ week , while I only contribute 3-4 photos a week and I have already run into trouble with your review team ! Again have a look at your entries of 400-500 photos in Nature categoriy , how ' very different ' they are ! You might think " Angelina Jolie " is very beautiful ! But I think otherwise ! Until the day when you are able to eliminate all the " very similar " image from the duel , I would think you are just trying to drive away " Good Photographer " who is winning regulary and thus making some people uneasy !

But this is your site ! I am just a player , rules are set by you , Being implemented by you , I would not like to argue that , Don't tell me you are being fair to all ! I am sure there are lots of people disagree with " fair " here ! Anyway I really do not wish to create any problems , I will just stop contributing any " winnable " photos , and I am sure there are people who will be happy cause they see less competition for the top award ! Lastly I wish you well and happy reviewing any " Very similar " iamges !
