Create Animal - Birds Category with bird sub-categories also

I'd like to suggest that Birds have an animal category of their own with sub-categories within. I think birds are one of the most photographed animals. I do not have stats for that, only observation. Just a thought to help make animal voting for birds a bit more targeted for subject. like dogs and cats have their own category with sub-categories within..

This suggestion has been made over and over again since the beginning of Pixoto. The answer is always the same: "Thank you for the suggestion." After that there is only silence and nothing happens. Has the management ever discussed this matter? Is there any hope of developing this category or will it stay the same forever? Should Birds be separated from Animals because Bird photography is truly a niche of its own? Or should all Animals be divided into Wild and Domestic ones? I would like to hear opinions of other members regarding this matter so feel free to share your thoughts!

Sometimes timing has alot to do with progressing forward... Just revisiting a suggestion and maybe programmers for the site have more tech knowledge available to do an addition?? Maybe tiiming with knowledge and technical advancement it is closer to happening?? I hope.

Another user explained to me that the more categories they have, the more each category is diluted of entries making it harder to get enough entries to win any money in weekly contests. That doesn't much matter to me since I rarely have a #1 of the week in any category, but it matters to some of the more professional photogs who use this site with the goal of winning money. I don't know if that is the real reason that they don't break birds out into its own category, but it was the best explanation I ever got.

Ok, I guess that would be an understandable explanation... But is Pixoto still paying out monetary awards in any category? At least those who have lately won such keeps on complaining that they haven't been paid. http://community.pixoto.com/pixoto/to...

This suggestion is very old. Pixoto gives always same answer.
I dont think that there are many categorys that get enouph entries for winning $$$$ , should it be so, then winners are most often the same.
It is always frustrating to make suggestions, when you know in acvance nothing will happen ............

According to one of Jasenka's replies, cats and dogs were made a category of their own due to requests by the community. How many requests would it take for the bird addition to happen if that was the ruling factor for cat and dog additions? just wondering...

Cheryl, you can make as many requests as you like, soon you will realise and bring into being that NOTHING will ever happen.
Unfortunatly for Pixoto all suggestions and opinions are irrelevant, or have you ever
experienced a different answer than: "Thank you for suggestion" ? This answer is the polite way to get rid of you!!!!!!

I hear that! I've suggested the same thing, as I am sure many have. Birds should have their own category. Will it ever happen? Well if we expect Pixoto to care about their contributors and how they feel, they should, but like I said before, they don't, otherwise, why not? But why would that matter when the voting process sucks in the first place (in my opinion.)

I for one would like to have the management provide us members an explanation for the structure of the category Animals. Why can't Birds be separate from Animals, what is the reason? Is it possible to think this over now in 2018 or will the Birds always be a part of Animals? And if so, WHY?

Jasenka,
I see that when voting in the animal category, one can be biased to birds over another animal, therefore; it can take away from another good photo of a different animal. That is a reason for the request. I find myself geared to vote for a bird over another animal because it is a favorite of mine in nature to photograph. I can not speak for others but I can admit that I do not feel the best on voting at times because of such. Since I recognize this about myself, and because I moderate contests, I am more careful to look and vote for the better image rather than bird photos now. If the birds were kept separate, it would clarify a much more fair vote for all animals by tapering it down one more category. my point clarified..
I know it has been requested for years and I appreciate that also. Yet Pixoto has also grown and I felt possibly time to revisit the request with reason given that I just stated above. Not to cause upset, just to revisit the request.
I'm curious when a moderator has open contest for all animals, what animal is at the highest percent to win such contests?
I think that there are more bird photos than cats and dogs and perhaps when cats and dogs were added, they were the higher percent?
If it is not able to be done technically, I think it could be told and then accepted by the members by having understanding to not doing so.
In no way was my question presented to cause upset.
Thank you for all you do..
Cheryl

Hi Cheryl, thank you for feedback. As I replied to Mia, I have asked for clarification from the management and I'll let you all know when I get a reply regarding separating birds from the Animal category.
