Clearly Defining Categories or Adding New Subcategories

For example a lot of the images in the FOOD & DRINK category are stretching their classification.

A high percentage of the top images in the FOOD & DRINK category are of colorful fruit and vegetables splashing into water. I feel those are abstract and or water related or even high speed photography. Not FOOD & DRINK.

Also under the subcategory of EATING. Only two out of nearly 120 images for this month has anyone actually eating.

I also agree, and am getting very bored with fruit dropping into water.

I used to like fruit/water but when you see very similar pics from the same photographer every day it quickly loses any appeal, and does not show any oringinality.

Since photographers do not have to be pre-approved to post photos here -- unlike most of the other stock photo web sites -- an awful lot of photographers likely use Pixoto to sell their photos and not for the competition aspect. Since they can't opt out of the duels, their photos will keep appearing and while that may annoy the folks who vote often, I suspect they don't much care about that :-)

Perhaps they should have a seperate section for those wishing to sell, where there is no prize money and perhaps a small charge.

I agree. Perhaps operate like the other stock sites, where you must submit a small portfolio of images that have to meet certain quality standards before you're allowed to offer them for sale -- and definitely allow those photographers to not participate in the duels if they wish. I think your idea of a separate section is definitely needed.

I would go insane taking the same photo over and over and over.

I didn't join to sell photos. I wanted to be inspired and see how my work compared to others. Also to get some feed back. I did get caught up in the contests, but after seeing how they work I'm not all that excited any more.

Oh please, no! There should be fewer categories in my opinion, not more!!! This should be all about the quality of the photographs, not the subject matter. Good photos can and should be able to compete against other good photos, no matter what the subject is :-)

To me it's all about the subject matter.

Maybe we could have fewer categories if people stopped posting the same image in dozens of different categories.

Here is an example of what I'm talking about. This is a Stained Glass Challenge. What do cheese balls, flowers, a canal and wooden clogs have to do or is common with stained glass? http://www.pixoto.com/challenges/stai...

Challenges are completely different from Categories :-) and are most often run by Pixoto members like you and me. Anyone can come up with a Challenge idea and then create it, and then you would be free to enter any of your photos into it, even if they're not appropriate. They'll likely be disqualified though :-) .... but some folks don't seem to care about the challenge rules. I'm not sure why....

All the wrongly entered ones have been disqualified so the submitters have just done some points for entering a wrong pic. Some people just don't read the rules.

There should be fewer categories, however not to the detriment of some existing categories.

I would remove the following:

1) Holidays......Create a new category called Celebrations (Holy, family, cultural etc)
2) News and Events....Nearly every image could go into an existing category
3) Travel Locations....Nearly every image could go into an existing category
4) Instagram and mobile....Because the technologies are merging, even today some mobiles are more aligned to photography than they are for cummunication
