I read that the rising star award is giving for this reason,

Rising start is giving to newer members who haven't yet achieved a 5% or better award. It is given to the top 50% of images for that day.

So I have a question, will all our pictures we post if they dont win the top prizes eventually get a rising star award when the duel for that picture is over with. I just got my third one on a picture I posted 2 -3 days ago or just ones that make it to the top 50%? I dont want to get one for every picture just for entering it. Takes the fun of getting it away as I would just like to get it if my picture has done well enough to deserve it. It may be a stupid question but I just want to make sure I understand completely thanks.

I confess I don't understand the why of these awards either, and there does seem to be a lot given out.i believe its too encourage new members but at what point is it enough encouragement.

I agree. I want encouragement but only up to a point. I dont want awards just for that. I want them cause my picture did well enough for at least a rising star award not just to encourage me. If thats the only reason we get them and it has nothing to do with our picture than I dont want them.

I am only confused as it sounds like if our picture is in the top 50% for the duel during the day but I just got one I submitted two to three days ago which is where I am confused about it.

Sarah I think you "earn" the awards that they are not given out for every photo... your photo had to have done well to have gotten the award. Somewhere on here I read an explanation of the award, right after they implemented it. I know it is meant to encourage and give you the old pat on the back...but I don't recall the details.

Thanks so much for your reply. I just wanted to make sure. I didnt want one if my picture didnt do well in the duel so thats good to know. I like the award and it does make it more exciting as long as we only can earn them if our picture did well in the duel.

Sarah - rising star awards are only given to images that achieve top 50% for that day.  All daily awards are given the day after submission.  Once you win a top 5% or better award you will no longer receive rising star awards.

Does this answer your question?

Jason - I have several top 5% prior to the submission of a recent image, which received a rising star award. How does that happen?
