What is "Country Memories?"

I submitted this image, my country memory to the "Country Memories" challenge.
http://www.pixoto.com/images-photogra...

It got disqualified and this is the message I received. "The reason given by the moderator was: Applicability to challenge theme is not apparent"

I'm from the island of Maui and this beach image represent my country memory from a rural area. Although Maui does have barns, crop fields, wagon wheels, livestock and even cowboys these things do not represent "my country memories." Also these things shouldn't define "country." People from islands and island nations have oceans as their fields and harvest fish from boats. Just because the crops, methods, culture and locations are different from the West, the Heartland and other parts of the continental US does not make them any less country. People from islands are tied to the ocean and it is integral part of our country and way of life.

Maui has become a popular international vacation designation with fancy hotels/resorts, golf courses, 5 Star restaurants and all kinds of tourism. But I remember a time when there was only one resort on Maui. When there were no stop lights on the entire island, no highways, no big brand stores. My memories of country life are of tiny mom and pop stores, cane and pineapple fields, a relaxed life style and family picnics to this beach that I've been going to for 50+ years.

Please understand and respect that this my country memory.

Thanks, Jason! I actually did comment there before posting here. Just not as lengthy.

I haven't heard back and still disqualified. It's disappointing when people are so narrow minded.

I think the challenge asked for "rural" pics.

I know there can be a few different definitions of rural but I would say that the most widely accepted is this one that I found.

rural
adjective
1.
in, relating to, or characteristic of the countryside rather than the town.
"remote rural areas"

Your pic is great but if I where defining it I would have called it "coastal" rather than rural.

I agree it can be coastal. But when your on an island and in rural areas a lot of it is coastal.

The name of the challenge is "Country Memories" and it asks for "memorable rural places that tell a story and mean something special to you."

This place is still out in an rural area. It's not evident, but across the street is hundred of acres of sugar cane fields. It's a place that means something special to me and where I have fond memories of.

country
noun
2. districts and small settlements outside large towns, cities, or the capital

memory
noun
2. something remembered from the past; a recollection.

Unfortunately, for the vast amount of people in the US the sole idea of country and rural areas are barns, pick up trucks and country music. Hence the title of my inquiry "Broaden Understanding."

Thanks for your response.
